The highbeam headlight on my bike (Hyosung GT650R) is awful Mad I have tried replacing the 55w bulb with a 100w, but this only made a bit of difference. The highbeam has a H1 fitment, so would any old H1 HID kit such as this one fit?

Don't fit them, they just dazzle other road users.

hi,
only difference i have seen with bike specific hid kits is the ballast is smaller/thinner. handy if space is limited.
i fitted the slimline type to a couple of smaller bikes & also fitted the bigger ones (where there is space obviously) too without any problems.
just make sure ballast box is very secure. i used cable ties & some very strong double sided sticky pads.
& read up on the spec ie the 6000k/10000k bit & get the type most suitable for YOU.

i was more concerned with seeing where i was going (i have to travel some very dark & unlit lanes to get home) than blinding other road users. i get dazzled by on-coming traffic on a nightly basis.

That's because you're blinding them. You're concerned about safety, yet blind the driver of 2 tonne car coming at you?

From my research on the inter-webs I concluded......

If you want to go HID, you need to fit a full projector headlamp, not just replace the bulb.
If the lens is clear (reflector is shaping the beam), you can hack up the back of the lamp holder and fit the projector inside, retaining the look of headlamp.
If the lens is patterned, you'll need to change it for a clear, or remove it entirely and go for a new headlight.
Any of the bulb only kits will end up scattering enough light to trouble other road users.

In the end, I came to the conclusion that I couldn't arsed with it all and fitted some Osram Nightbreakers.

yes, im concerned about MY safety, not anyone elses.
bit selfish i know, but seems to be the norm in todays society. so some time ago, i thought "f*ck it, not gonna beat 'em so might as well join 'em"
& i was continually being dazzled by motorists long before i bought hid's,

On my bike I will keep the standard 55w bulb in the low beam, and put the HID in the high beam. Could this dazzle anyone?

pppffft, see me fine with reflective piping on jacket & trousers. i also wear a hi-viz vest.
helmet is fluo colour.
bike is bright yellow.
still think i cant be seen?
to the op, just buy a cheap hid kit & see for yourself. if you dont like it , stick it back on ebay.

reflective and hi-viz, won't be seen as your head lights are brighter.

fluro coloured helmet also won't be visible at night.

Either way, people drive at me with high beam on or lights that blind, then they get the same in return, and if you're on a bike you're not going to come off well against the car you're blinding when they flick their high beam on

Quantity of light is unlikely to be the problem, it's the light distribution that is the problem. I'd suggest adjusting the headlight aim upwards and to the left. The other problem with HIDs and overwatt bulbs is that you can end up with too much light turning all the street signs into glare on high beam and making fog even worse.

Also HIDs make very bad high beams. They're more suited to low beam. The problem is that they don't produce large amounts of light quickly, so aren't good for hi-lo-hi-lo switching through twisties nor for flashing people. A 100w bulb is plenty for high beam, IIRC I've got a 55/60 in the GN125 and 140/90 in the ZX6R. I used a 100W high beam in an RS125 and it worked really well and I mostly used it on country roads at night.

Also, try cleaning the lens and reflector.

On HID kelvin 'K', 5000-6000 is best. Blue is good for posing but produces less light and it doesn't penetrate as well, especially in fog.

Their lights are blinding you because you're looking at their lights instead of the white line ahead as you pass them. Look at the white line ahead of you and you won't get blinded. There will always be some loose light from their standard lights on low beam as there is from yours.

As for worrying about safety, a blinded car driver will do you a lot more damage hitting you head on than you could ever do by out driving your own lights.

Can't stand HID lights personally, blind the fuck out of me on numerous occasions - certainly don't think they make it safer for anyone, especially if its a car on car when you're so blinded as you approach them you can barely see where the lanes of the road seperate..

I just went with cheap xenon bulbs off ebay, a little brighter, look 'nicer' if you're after that bright-white look, without the manic blinding and technical fiddling required.

I've had to physically stop before due to the insane amount of light produced by the car in the distance. I couldn't actually see the road in front of me, let alone the white line, so it was all that I could do.
