Does anyone know if there are any reasonable parking spots for bikes near Temple station/Waterloo Bridge? I've heard something about a £1 charge, any way to avoid that? I know parking on the footpath is frowned upon that way.
It's easy to look up parking spots online but not things like whether or not they get full, if they're (sort of, ish) safe, etc. |
Parking on the footpath anywhere in Central London will get your bike lifted or at least ticketed.
In Westminster, only on-street parking is chargeable, at £1 a day or £3.50 a week. If you can get into the underground carparks they are free but ONLY in dedicated bike bays. check out the Westminster website for a list of which ones.
If you get outside Westminster, and you are right on the edge in that zone, then bike parking is free in bike bays. I suggest Lincoln's Inn Fields as a good place to try, quite a few bike spaces there but get in early. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

All of Westminster Council's car-parks are now operated by a company called QPark.
They are free for bikes as people have already said, but fill up early and not all of them cater for bikes.
If you're near Waterloo Bridge, try south of the river, Lambeth Borough don't charge. ____________________ Like a Yorkie - I'm not for the girls |

Not too far away in Adelaide Street WC2, there
is a motorcycle bay.
It is Westminster so you have to pay but I have never seen this bay full up at any time. ____________________ Current Bike: 2004 Suzuki Bandit 600S

The solo motorcycle only bays along Victoria Embankment never seem to get full. Probably because of the high chance of having your bike flattened by a foreign coach driver. This is the one near Temple Walkabout just after 11:00 this morning:

However I'd seriously recommend the underground car parks too. Don't forget that the City Council car parks are free for bikes as well as the Westminster ones. The Baynard House park on Queen Victoria Street isn't too long a walk from Temple. Patrolled, warm, dry and only the slightest hint of stale piss in the air. ____________________ 2007 CBF1000 & 2016 CBF1000F - Commuter heaven | 1994 CBR600FR - Awaiting defibrillation |
