I wanto keep riding in the winter/ice and was thinking of getting a yamaha dt 125 with some decent tires, what are peoples thoughts of using it for this??

I would do it, but only if you wanted a dt anyway.
I used my MT50 in the snow last year, to keep the varadero looking nice in the garage. The commute was only about 5 miles through town though at the time. My TTR is going to get used through the winter this year, it's a similar mold to the DTR, similar power as well.

I'm going to put some Shinko 244 's on it as I know they work well in the snow from last year and not too bad on tarmac. Although I will have nearly 5 times the power this year. I am going to start looking at building a wind screen and bodging up some bigger hand guards to block the wind, all done on the cheap of course.

Off road rubber is just as useless on ice as anything else, just so you know Thumbs Up Would be fun in fresh snow tho.
