I'd like to go for a nice long ride on my own somewhere with a bagback with a bit of food, cigs and a nice internet connection.

Anyone got any stories?

I do mostly ride on me own. Not always by choice, mind. And when I go out I invariably go up to seaways or over to squires (biking cafes), get chatting to other people with bikes, have a roll up or three, then come back home innit.

I normally head out with 1 or 2 guys I know from bike cafes and meets etc. head out for a few hours and get some food then a new route back. Or we go to bike meets and cafes meets sort of thing, have a nose at everyone's bikes then go for a ride

Just started going to local bike nights to meet people, soon get to know all the local places people tend to go. Look at local bike forums to meet people or find local ride outs is good if you don't know anyone. That's what I did when I moved here

Or just venture out on my own with no real plan, usually end up finding an amazing road or something

I just go to places - Wales, Scotland, Peak District, track days etc. Otherwise I cannot be bothered. I usually ride alone and I like it that way.

There's a lot more to the hobby than the bikes themselves isn't there

It's all about the tyre kicking and the lying about how fast you went.

Yeah I dunno - think I got a bit lucky being between two (three if you count fimber in the woods at the incredulously named wetwang) bike fixated cafes. But there'll be something near to you I reckon.

Like cansa said there's always the obligatory weather topic to be got through - but after that I always plough into what bikes whoever I'm talking to has owned before the one they're on. Usually throws up interesting stuff.

But anyway, my favourite rides aren't fast ones - and would probably bore most bcf types rigid. I'd guess that the majority of miles I cover are on unclassified, very rural lanes - lots of blind bends, awkwardly positioned drifts of grit and plenty of massive, poorly driven mechanised agricultural machinery. Makes for "interesting" riding lol. There are straight stretches too though, where you can wind it on a bit - so it's a bit more varied than I'm making out. Other times I go into York, primarily to annoy grockles with my far-too-loud zorst. A bit of flitering is always fun, and some of the tiny, cobbled back streets have lots of strange ancient chapels huddled away, and bizarre, crooked Tudor timbered properties. Hardly a pegs-down, red-lining kinda thang - but for some strange reason I always enjoy it.
