Starting with the simplest things and check your battery voltage. Above ten will usually start a small engine. Then go round and check all your cut-out switches, sidestand, clutch, brake if it has one and the neutral selector.

Just start with an obvious look over - clean dry - terminals are not badly rusted etc.
If you you are doubtful about one bridge the connections with a spare peice of wire of disconnect the terminals and fasten them together.

Can you elaborate on the problem a bit more? Does it crank over but not start? - refuse to crank at all? Kickstart always starts it?

These are a bit notorious for failing ECU / ignitor unit (whatever you want to call it). They fool you when cold, fail you when warm.

Its not a high performance unit (or a high performance engine) so, I just replaced it with a unit from a Chinese 125, about £9 as I recall.

Chinese boxes come in two types a DC and an AC working with a variety of connections, but they all do the same job. Can't remember exactly, but I'm pretty sure the SR runs the ignitor off battery supply, so that would need the DC type unit. The wiring is simple, a pos and neg, lead to the pulse generator and a supply to the coil. You will need a diagram for your particular model to identify the correct leads, they are on the net, but do get the right diagram, Yamaha changed the ignition system quite a few times.
