How to remove

Exhaust rust.

I have no fancy liquids or cleaners at the moment and no money to buy any till the end of the month.

Any house hold cleaners or techniques to remove it?

Wire brush.

If it is a stainless steel exhaust with rust spots, use brick acid and wire wool/brush.

If it is a mild steel exhaust, wire brush then paint it. BBQ paint seems to work well.

It's quite feasible that you have all the stuff already to make a electrolysis rust removal set up as well.

I did this actually quite recently.

I used a drill with a stainless steel brush end.
Used that all over to get the top coat off.

Then I painted two coats of rust converter. It converts rust to organic metal. It can also painted over.

I then sprayed it with black paint.

Thats a lovely job you did there mate, might pop into halfords and buy a drill piece with the brush head!

Got the majority of it off but still some remains due to it being a large brush, couldnt get into some areas and its too late to remove it.. and im worried i wont be able to get it back on Embarassed

chemical wise - look for de-oxidising agents, the should absorb the oxygen from the rust slowly turning it back to metal. Depending on how strong the agent will depend on the results but this is all the "rust remover" things are that are available.

"Kurust" was quite good back when I had a car with rotting wheelarches... comes in something resembling an old glue pot, down to the lid having a built-in brush. Bit thin though, you'll make a mess.

Scrape off the worst of it, douse the rest in that stuff, keep it dry for 24h (more if possible), then slather it in anti-rust hammerite.

Wish I'd had (or taken) the time to do that to mine ages ago, it gave way recently and I had to just replace it outright.
