To you gixxer lot, this may be of interest,

Every Suzuki GSX-R including the 600, 750 and 1000cc variants built since 2004 has been officially recalled for modifications to the front brake master cylinder.

Shocked

Because of a 'spongy' brake feel?

Fuck me ragged. Ford, Nissan, Fiat etc. would go bust.

Best thing they can do is put proper braided pipes on rather than the shite rubber things. perfect example of saving money on what is supposed to be a performance vehicle.

Reading between the lines (forgive the pun):

It seems that the 'spongy' brake feel isn't caused by the lines but by water getting into the master cylinder and rusting the master cylinder spring, meaning the brake lever doesn't return.

That is the issue I think they are trying to address.

Facebook is full of people posting this 'Urgent' information that people with up to 9 year old bikes might possibly, maybe have an issue.

Frankly, if a bike rider (who have a reputation as a group of noticing if a bit of paint flakes off the tank because of the effect on the handling) doesn't notice a spongy brake, I'm sure that their MOT examiner would.

I ride a K4 750 and did just recently spend a bit of money on good-ridge hoses and fresh fluid..

If they are going to fit fresh calipers F.O.C without a fuckabout at the authorized dealers then result!

I trust lorries are driving through the night with hundreds of pairs of calipers read to go as we speak Laughing Neutral

Shock horror, Suzuki fitting sub standard parts to their bikes, no I won't have it.

That said the fitters are going to be confused as fuck as a sew of tampons in white and blue flood their garages whilst they sit and scratch their heads going " so which ones have we done? Anyone know who owns which?"

Do you think they would notice if I put a false number plate and a Suzuki badge on my old Exup Question I could do with a new radial master cylinder.

Saying that,Nissin make the radial front brakes and I doubt that this will affect just Suzukis.I am pretty sure that the later Yamaha R6 has the same fitment, the last time that I worked on such a bike.

Interested to know what the 'statute of limitations' would be on a product recall. Surely there's a point where the manufacturer can claim that actually it's fuck all to do with them. 9 years seems a long time.

Less reading between the lines and more reading the lines.

If that's the case, it sounds like they'll remove the MC, change out the internals and then re-bleed the system up rather than replacing the whole thing.

I work in a Suzuki car garage. Suzuki are shit hot on recalls, as someone else said, other manufacturers would just release a service bulletin to replace M/C IF a customer complains of spongy brakes. Let's face it, no one with a 9 year old bike would take it back to a franchised dealer expecting the manufacturer to replace the M/C free of charge because the brakes are a bit spongy.

Recently, Suzuki recalled tens of thousands of Swifts (9-12 year old models) to replace both front shock absorbers, a job which cost Suzuki more than the current retail value of the car in question. They feel that their reputation for reliability is something worth protecting.
