I'm thinking of going on a day trip (or 1 night) to France before the weather gets too cold...just so I can say I have been abroad on the bike
Can I go there on a 33hp licence? And if my insurance provides European cover, can I literally just ride to Dover and get on a boat (or Folkstone, and get on a train) or do I have to sign any forms or make any phone calls?
Cheers |

Just go, you will have insurance cover but best check policy just in case.
no forms other than filling in stuff to book.
need gb badge, all your bike docs, reflective stickers on helmet, Passport. GO
I prefer tunnel. book online. it'll cost about £27 for a 2 day return. Usually pull off the M20 and an hour later i'm on the motorway in france. ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? I've allways wanted to go to Brussels, dunno why ...Google maps says that it's only about 7 hours from Derby...but I assume that's with no breaks and only using motorways. |

Brussels 4 hrs from London, including tunnel.
Motorways are ok over there. going to brussels non motorway will add lots of time. ____________________ Nobby the Bastard: How yo tell the difference between the actual japanese and her just screaming because she's had live fish stuck up her arse? It's amazing how close it is Are there many complicated lane systems and roundabouts between the Eurotunnel and Brussels? |

Be carefull of the "priority to the right" in the towns and especially out in the country. I've been here 10 years and it still catches me out now and then.
When you enter a village or town, there will always be a sign with the name of it on it, that's when the 50kph starts, and finishes on the sign on the exit of said village / town.
Take it easy, and enjoy the experience ____________________ Prendre garde au temps entre le chien et le loup

Just give it some thought. As you can get caught in a snow shower. And riding in that there, or coming back can be a right pain in the Azz.
