Cbr 600 fs-2 cbr600 f sport and cbr 600 rr confusion

So here is my dilemma I have a budget of £1800 to spend on a new bike soon.my needs are commuting and weekend hooning.so I have choosen the cbr 600f range as I think this is the ideal solution to my needs Very Happy .and now my dilemma starts what is the difference between all the f models all i can see is some have a double seat some don't same with the center stand. To me the fs-2 looks just like a rr.please help sw is conffused Thumbs Up

Rider position is also a factor on f vs rr

Rr is more aggressive but I haven't noticed a massive difference when having a go of both

Riding position I did not consider.cant really have sporty due to back problems and no need for something radical.so the f's would be the ones for me.so does that mean like the one I posted the link to is that more sporty commuter and not a knee down hooligan type bike? Or would the single seat types be more me Thumbs Up
Soil guess I want all day comfy with the sporty looks more suggestions allWays welcome needs to be uber reliable to.. To give an idea of roads I use I live in Newtown so a483 and the a470 are always used..

Fs would seem to be the middle ground.

I would go try test ride both an f and fs if possible?

Try do it at a place with both bikes so you can have a direct comparison and have the rides fresh in your mind

Apaz the zx9-r is meant to be a much more comfortable riding position. Even more than the f

Meant to be on par with the thundercat

I know what one I would prefer. Gsxr is prob in between both rr and f?!

Think something like a zx9 might be a little much for my needs maybe.it need to have a sensible tire and chain wear rate not a lot of funds to be replacing that sort of thing often Very Happy

The F Sport has a stepped seat, the F doesn't. There wasn't much other difference that couldn't be facilitated by a couple of clicks on the suspension and I vaguely remember them having an extra tooth on the back sprocket as standard or something. Not much in it. They all have fully-adjustable suspension up to about 2005 or so (maybe a couple of years later, you can google it and check).

The F (big seat version) should all have a centre stand but by this age you'll find some have had it taken off. For instance, I removed mine when I downgeared it so much the chain rubbed on the stand.

Unless you desperately want the looks of the Sport over the not-Sport, buy based on condition. They didn't really change from 2001 (went fuel injected) through to whichever year the budget suspension went on, so there's no particular benefit to an 05 over an 01 if the 01 is in better nick.

NB: The Sport was only made for a couple of years, until the RR came along in 03. So you've got a much smaller pool to choose from if you want one of them.

CBR600F series is your bog standard CBR6 range which has continued on from the first models in the late 80's.

I believe:

CBR600F Hurricane (1987 - 1988)
CBR600F (1989 - 1990)
CBR 600 F2 (1991 - 1994)

CBR 600 F3 (1995 - 1998) These were the last of the steel framed versions "The Steelies" In the pic note, the intakes and pillion handle are different.

CBR 600 F4 (1999 - 2000) These were the first of the aluminium ugly CBR6's..... yuk!

CBR 600 F4i (2001 - 2006) These were the first fuel injected models.

In 2000 they came out with the CBR600FS model. The "Sport" model which has the split seats. I think they fetched this out to compete with the Gixxers, Ninja's of the era as the CBR600f was starting to look more tourer than supersport.
This model ran until 2003 when it was replaced with the RR model.

Yes. Made in 2002.

If we're being pedantic, the whole F2, F3, F4, F4i thing is actually the US designation for them. It does make more sense, but will confuse you as in the UK they used the number to denote the year from 2001 onwards. Before that it was a letter (FY was 2000, work backwards from that).

Ok i currently own a 99 FY and its my winter bike
Its the smoothest and easiest to ride of the lot.
Not as fast up top as the RR but for 90% of the time is far easier to live with and just as capable as a road bike.

Ridden the FS and it was notchy in its throttle control, early Honda FI is not that great to be honest. Bike was nice though and oddly felt lighter to ride than the later RR

Bought a new RR5 - fast bike and great track bike, utter shite on the road and yes you can change the gearing to get some mid range back, but it becomes very tedious on the motorway and revving everywhere.
Not good on fuel, still not smooth and not surprisingly - not comfy either.

To sum up - for the road get the FX, FY or F4i
For track use - Get the RR

or just remove the two 12mm bolts holding the seat down. it clips in, which is enough to hold it in without danger of it coming off. I had mine like that for nearly 12 months before selling it.

but there is NO storage under the seat, well, other than using it as a sandwich carrier!

the toolkit sits behind the battery, which is accessible by taking the left tail panel off with the ignition key, from there you can remove the seat bolts using the spanner in the toolkit, providing you have the toolkit!

That's actually a fairly sensible price from a dealer. The downpipes might need a good looking at though.

If it has the history stated, definitely worth a look.
