Saw this via some motorcycle website's FB page:

https://www.motoroids.com/news/triumph-entry-level-250cc-motorcycle-spotted-testing/

Looking forward to seeing what the full specs look like. Maybe the long neglected 250cc-400cc category might start getting some love in the near future.

Saw it in MCN, could be good. They reckoned it wouldn't be ready for release till 2015 though, judging by that picture I'd have one if it's a decent ride.

Why have they borrowed the fuck-ugly exhaust from a Gladius?

Weird exhaust indeed, like a huge chrome turd. Thoroughly throws the whole balance off.

If I ever do end up getting one, I'd take the exhaust and wasplike fairings off and put the old round Triple headlights on. Always been a huge fan of those.

That looks so wrong and sounds very boring, 250cc single? Come on people, give us at least 500cc single to have some 60's like fun.

If it's aimed close to the 47bhp licensing law, I can see it selling very well indeed. Although somehow, I suspect it'll be about 15bhp+ short of that. Which puts it in the market for 'stupid people who don't know what's good for them'.

Will still sell like hot cakes then.... Brick Wall

Got to agree, that exhaust is a beast and needs replacing, quick.
Like the idea, however, of Triumph opening up the 250 market again as others will follow and as an old school 70s biker when the max learner bike was 250cc they are great bikes. Today's modern, lighter 250 would be great around any town or city.

The MCN article reckoned around the 40bhp mark. Good for what, about 100mph?`

My thoughts entirely, be lucky if it makes 28bhp.

Just curious as I end up thinking the same thought every time I see this sort of thread, what in the new legislation stops them making a proper il4 250 4 stroke like they used to?

I'm sure the little CBR250rr used to put out around 45bhp which fits into the new licencing doesn't it?

Just curious because they all seem to have tiny Japanese (and now triumph and KTM) erections for singles which seems a little...boring.

It's not lesigslation, but economics that has been the issue.
A low powered single with budget components can be sold at a reasonable price - ideal for younger riders.

However, saying that, with the age increasing, it could be interesting to see the possibilities if there's more chance of people justifying paying near 600cc prices for a 250cc bike. In the end, a 250cc with a similar hp per cc to a 600, 19k rpm and suspension to match a 600cc sports bike is going to cost similar to a 600cc sports bike to make.
Except, the markets more limited, so quite likely they could actually need to charge more! Which is, of course, unlikely to work well.

Maybe that exhaust is not the one that will end up on the finished article?
Could be the same with the light cluster?
I guess that a IL4 250 would be to expensive to produce these days and not enough profit in it for the manufactures?

A 250 single that is not in a trails frame could be interesting.
How will it compete against the likes of the Honda CB250r twin
or the mighty little Kawasaki 250 Ninja?

if it can keep up with modern traffic and sip petrol frugally and is cheap enough, I`ll take a look.
Bet your bottom dollar that they will want silly money for them.
Just look at the new Enfield 535 Shocked .
Lets hope Triumph are not as silly.

With today's rubber, brakes and suspension, this 30 year old would go down a treat.

A restricted 47hp 450cc twin based on the 675 could be interesting.
(Ok, the triple isn't exactly 'interesting', so I doubt a slower twin would be any more so.)

Hi

CBR250RR was too expensive to sell in Europe new. Cost would have been quite a bit higher than the CBR600 of the time (one of the reasons the Japanese market bikes got a good reputation as grey imports at the time is that they were generally far higher spec than mainstream European market bikes).

If Triumph can build this for reasonable money and sell it at a price competitive with the other 250s (maybe a bit more if they build a larger bore version to suit European licence rules) then I suspect it will be a hit.

All the best

Keith

The link mentions that it will most likely be manufactured in Thailand and assembled in India. It will sell loads and I will enjoy zipping past them on my aircooled and much lighter CB250RS.

YBR250? CBF250?

Neither very popular.

It's not exactly special, just paying for the triumph badge and the different style really.

They should make a mini triple tbh

Built for the far eastern markets but it will sell well over here too. At the risk of being sexist, I know a few girls who ride 125's and would go to 250's but don't want a bigger bike than that.

I learnt on 250's and I think it's a cracking size bike for a novice. Big enough to have 'presence' on the road. Fast enough to keep up with all traffic and small enough to have fun on Thumbs Up

You are not wrong, I did look for one, but I was to tight to pay what people wanted for them

I`ve shot my self in the foot a bit by going down the Superdream road Doh!
https://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t87/pepperami_photos/IMG_1685_zps9f9a26db.jpg
Musn`t grumble to much , she a tough old bird and keeps going.

I also have this 250
https://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t87/pepperami_photos/Penrith.jpg

This now begs the question , How will their new 250 compere to these?
How can Triumph convince me to sell these and buy one of their new bikes?

The old Honda plods along and JUST KEEPS GOING , albeit at a slower pace.
The Hyosung has long legs and can crack a ton(private road of course) on a good day.
So what will the new Triumph offer to convince me and others that it`s a good buy?
We shall have to wait and see.

Suzuki already have the Inazuma in the 250 market, yet it never seems to be mentioned, is it just a rubbish ride or something? Saw one today and it looked fairly sizeable, well equipped and like a nice bike. At £3400 brand new not a bad price either, I think more manufacturers will be looking to bring 250s out. I imagine I'd be more than happy with one for day to day use and so would many others.

It's a 125 Duke of the A2 category. A very slightly detuned factory street triple to 95hp would be incredibly easy to do with simply engine remapping and would quite literally be the ultimate A2 bike.

Well said.............I've got two of 'em, great little bikes. I travelled up from Cornwall to the Midlands on the M5/6 all the way at an indicated 70mph..........didn't miss a beat and didn't use any oil.

It is quite amazing how times change perception. They weren't on the desirable list at all when they were made Laughing
