The other day I saw one of the late model R1's and whenever he braked the rear light flashed and then worked as normal. It looked pretty good and definitely catches your attention.

Potentially there is a lot going for it methinks, different enough to attract attention without being offensive.

Being legal on motorcycles only would be nice, that way it does not get lost and meaningless in the crowd.

It won't happen though.

I'd be unkeen to use that purely because i imagine sooner or later some idiot in a car behind with a hot head will presume you're trying to 'flash him off' for some reason or another and start driving like a nutjob.

The intergrated turn signals i'm not keen on either - i did try those on my ZX6 when i first got it, but after getting a couple of mates to follow me to see what it was like they said when you apply the brake the brightness of it can make it quite hard to see you're indicating at the same time, so went back to the stock ones Thumbs Down

Does look good though Cool

Hi

Flashing brake light would seem to fall foul of:-

https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1989/1796/regulation/13/made

Integrated turn / tail lights normally seem to count as an MOT fail as the indicator affects the tail lights (don't think the min distance rules are enforced for the MOT though).

All the best

Keith

On this one I think the indicating side dims plus the movement should be enough to work.

Just seen they are about £80 shipped here though Shocked

I wish someone would make one where just the tip of each light flashes as an indicator

I like the idea. The flash gets the attention, then it stays on so that people know that you are still braking. Believe it or not, most car drivers aren't wankers, and those that are will kick off over much less than that.

I'd be tempted to fit it under the seat along with a 2-pole switch secreated somewhere easy to fit so that it can be turned off/bypassed for the MOT and the obligatory 'random safety /in possession of a motorcycle' check from your local cuntstabulary.

There are cars that had flashing tail lights but now they make the hazards flash under hard braking. I personally preferred flashing tail lights instead of hazards.

Seen flashing brake lights on track a few times, so off putting for one, and second it was on the new BMW, so could have been in race mode, which suggests it is not legal.

Did you see it while following one, or on TV?

I'm not presently in a position to quote statute and regulation, but AFAIK, flashing rear lights in any colour other than orange contravene C&U/MOT regs for standard road cars (obviously excluding emergency service vehicles) and I'm not aware of any race series that sancton or require flashing brake lights.

Damned if I can find any videos of the current generation UK spec Ford Mustang, but the North American spec does this for its signals/indicators:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MKUWkewd52M

I suspect they might fit an orange LED into one of the reversing lights to flash orange and meet the regulations in the UK.

Funnily enough i noticed this the other day, not an avid fan to quote the specific series but it was some porsche race on late night motorsport uk. They didnt always flash though (why it caught my attention), seemed to be under heavy/'emergency' braking, perhaps allowed as a safety measure under those braking conditions only?

Mate has a second rear light mounted below the stock consisting of two vertical rows of red LEDs which is slaved to his rear light and when he applies the brake the LEDs flash really does catch the eye but stock light is standard

That's to do with the camera.

LED lights on cars are designed to flash (saves money and prolongs life) but at a frequency high enough that you can't usually see it.

Modern TV cameras happen to film at a frame rate that's fast enough to catch the moments when some of the LEDs in the array are off, so it appears they are flashing, but it depends on the angle, so you won't see it all the time.

Some people can notice it, or notice symptoms of it. It is one of the things I find bloomin annoying about LED lights.

All the best

Remember seeing American cars doing that (here) in the 1970s
Not sure what make exactly.

This seems like a really good idea to have on all vehicles on the road, a lot of rear end collisions could be avoided if the driver knew how hard the car in front was braking as soon as the brake light came on.

I'm confused why this isn't a law already?

On road i guess ot might be too distracting/confused with emergency vehicles. If you think of it happening on a motorway in the far lane from yoursrelf many people would probably look off their own road, "whats flashing/why are they braking hard Surprised ".

Shame though id agree on standard roads it would be a goos attention grabber, but would have to be on all vehicles i guess.

I suppose, although once it's the norm it would probably not cause much alarm as people would be used to it. On top of that, It should be designed so that a person coming directly ahead doesn't see it. If you imagine it being in-between the brake lights a separate light it would be hard to see.
