CBR500?

Has anybody ridden/owned one of these? They're new this year and I don't think I've even seen one, seem to be tailored to the A2 licence.

If anybody has ideas for something better, I think I'll be needing something at least half faired. I've been learning on a naked bike, meaning there's quite a bit of wind at 70mph and I do a lot of motorway miles.

A colleague of mine at work test rode one. He said it was comfy, not too heavy, easy to ride and it seemed to be well built.

He also said it wasn't mega exciting and I've heard it is not as well built as Japanese built Hondas.

The new 'cbr' seems to be like the old one, but heavier and slower.

I originally started looking at an ER6f, but then I realised the Honda was £1500 cheaper...

I have ridden an SV650 at full power, before the training school realised how old I was. Not sure I'm all that keen on them really though, I just feel like I'd be unimaginative if I got one.

yeah way too much money to be throwing at a bike you wont own for a year or 3,
buy second hand, and don't spend what you don't have,
buy a cg125 if thats all you can afford, and save up and keep an eye out for a bargain in the mean time,

they are out there, you just have to be patient,
no shame in riding a shitter, probably better this time of the year any way

I have a free afternoon on wednesday, so I'm going to have a look around and see what I can see. There seems to be three or four garages quite near to me with a large selection of ER6's, SV650's, GSR600's etc.

You've done a good job of persuading me not to buy a CBR500, and in fact to not buy new at all!

With new you get 'a warranty'* and some hope that the bike will be in decent condition.
However, you'll be 'paying out' a good amount per month in depreciation. In the case of the bike you linked to, you could probably three SVs for the same price (definitely if you went for the older design). So, if you had trouble with one, you just swap to the next .
Or, you could take some of the money saved from depreciation and pay to make sure it's in good nick.

*Useful if you run out of bog paper.

...I think I know which way I'm going with this now.

Although the Suzuki's are quoted by MCE so maybe I'll get a slightly more expensive policy.
