Found some pictures of both the bikes side by side, thought it interesting as the price difference between the two is huge.

Other stuff from the Jianshe:

Seeing as this one uses a Single Overhead Camshaft with a balance shaft how it compares to a Huoniao with a Pushrod engine, I am torn between the two bikes but leaning more towards the YBR clone, don't feel confident to buy second hand as I don't have a clue, and budget is diminishing as I bought a flat and should be looking at sofas instead of bikes.

I think the YBR would hold it's value more when you come to sell it.

Use to own a YBR custom, great bikes and loved the MPG

The choice is between the Huoniao hn-125 and the Jianshe JS125-6C, sadly my budget doesn't allow me going for a new YBR, and don't feel confident buying second hand.

2ND hand Japs are great.

I've heard more people tend to have problems with the brand new Chinese then 2nd hand Japs.

I'm not saying that neither are perfect and you might find you got a good one but for me I would risk it.

Alto the Chinese ones do look good

2nd hand jap all day long, but if you are really "really" peasant, Jianshe looks the best bet.

What is the budget...?

Cheers, OP, interesting comparison. There are actually more differences than I'd thought. Thinking Loving the cheesy blanked off sight glass on the Yahama branded one. Very Happy

HN125-8 (aka Haotian HT125-8 aka Lexmoto Vixen) owners tend to like their bikes, and there's an active owners forum.

Jianshe make the YBR. Although as a compromise, what about the AJS branded versions? They're a bit more than the Jianshes (remember to factor in delivery, registration, VED and plates and the cost and hassle of insuring on the VIN until you get your registration) but are likely to hold their value a little better and be easier to insure.

Kymco, maybe, they seem to last.

You can't get new Jinnys any more. There was a decent owner community, but it wasn't all roses. You might find them under a different brand, but then you've got ongoing parts and insurance hassles. I do know that Lexmoto imported them for a while but dropped them, which isn't encouraging.

Hyosung, again maybe, but parts supply is rotten for 125s that had such a startlingly high sticker price. I say "had" because E.P Barrus finally gave up importing them, so it's (still) a case of order direct from Korea or hope that you get lucky with StartRight or another breaker.

Actually those pictures were originally posted in a Chinese forum and linked to the Huoniao owners club forum. Didnt want to post the question there as they really love their bikes and will be very biased towards the Huoniao. Read your blog too abut the bike in a box.

Budget can be streched to 900, but second hand jap is something I dont feel confident doing it, first because I cannot judge the state of a motorclyce, second any issue means going to a garage and you can imagine it, 45 year old with a 15000 miles CG125 and no clue, the owner will throw a comforting arm around my shoulders and with tears swelling in his eyes, assures me that all will be well...£200 later.

HN125-8 seems like the better choice, was thinking that the SOCH engine maybe justified a bigger expenditure compared to the Pushrod engine, but it seems it is not a factor. Really friendly community, spares and insurance tips the balance now towards it.

If I were doing it again, I reckon I'd get the Jianshe. Wink

I may be a little biased and have also recently developed a dislike for glitzy customs.
But why have Yamaha (Jianshe) built a nice bike then done there best to ruin.

- Blue HT lead?
- What are those two super shiny lumps at the front, just in front of the exhaust valve inspection cover?
- The matt grey bar coming off the swing arm pivot to the rear foot rest, ugly.
- Headlight looks like an Octopus sucker
- The exhaust looks massive against the size of the bike
- The rear looks far too busy and glitzy, probably due to the panniers requiring re-position of the indicators.

The Jianshe doesn't get a free pass though:
- What is the scafolding around the headlight. Looks like the unit came straight out of a theatre and the bars are for adjustment.
- Tyres are not good.
- Rims are gonna be annoying to clean.
- They have fitted an inline fuel filter. There is already a filter in the fuel tap.......I also fitted in IL filter, but a nice chrome+glass one....slightly hypocritical.

The Jianshe looks a nicer bike to me, it's slightly less fussy and less "Harley through a hot wash shrunk".

Somebody at work has the HN125-8 Vixen. It's 4 years old and caked in rust.

If you do get a Chinese bike, you will have to keep it clean (including use of FS365 and ACF50) and you will have to use some tools on a regular basis. Chain stretches every 300 miles. And you can't ride it in the rain, you will fall off. Just kidding, but the tyres aren't good past 3,000 miles

I'd get neither and go for a Jianshe JS125-6b Smile
