Very easy job that even the non spanner lovers can fit in under an hour.
Remove the wheel , mudguard and a few pinch bolts.
Bought from Amazon through Bike Devils and delivered within 48 hours.

ARIETE MOTORCYCLE FORK MOTORCYCLE GAITERS 7907N-BLACK 28-46-215mm

Fit perfectly.

Good job. Thumbs Up

I have no idea why bikes still come without them other than habit and cheapness. It would be like cars coming with open wheel arches.

They actually look pretty good.

I kept meaning to fit some to my Varadero 125, fairly bad pitting, it polished out but it could have been avoided if they came as standard.

I like the look of them, I can understand why others don't but bearing in mind that one stone chip can ruin a stanchion plus possible rusting if the bike's used through the winter makes a convincing argument to fit a pair.

They look okay on some bikes, however on most they look absolutely wank. I'd have taken them off straight away if they came fitted to any bike I have owned.

Very subjective both for observer and bike. On an all year commuter or even an, uh, "adventure" bike, I personally think they look just like what they are - practical.

Oh, I should put some on my ped. Very Happy

Also, pitted forks can be fixed with something like wonder wheels (car product) and a copper wire brush. Then you need some autosol and a rag to buff them off to make them look new again.

Oh I agree they do look pish on most bikes.
I wouldn't put a set on my Z750.
But that bike does not do 100 miles every week in all weathers through the winter months.
The YBR has done 3,500 hard commuting miles in 10 months.
They cost me £16. And that is a lot better than having to fork out a good wedge should the stanchions get pitted and fuck my seals.
Money well spent I reckon.

They are a bit Marmite Surprised

3500 miles in 10 months Shocked The Varadero still needs a set of gaiters and that has done over 20k in 12 months Laughing

Indeed - so an average of two 8.3 mile journeys each working day.

If I saw someone with a Ducati 1199 or whatever with these on I'd immediately consider think it way better - it's a sign the owner got the bike for riding, not posing!

Getting maxed thro every gear in and out of Edinburgh with my fat arse on it , in all weathers , is indeed a task.

A task that the wee black bullet performs very well.

It is not cruising at a constant speed.

It is up and down through the gears constantly.

Like mines.

4 oil changes in 3,500 miles and 10 months does help.

But usd forks are pretty well protected by the mudguard so no real need for gaiters with them

Better protected, but wet winter commutes they do seem to suffer a bit still - getting hit with a reasonably bit of oft-salty road spray.

Anyone tried the neoprene ones? I'm wondering how stretchy they are; I can't be arsed taking all the tupperware off the ped to drop the forks out and was wondering if they could be wiggled upwards from the bottom instead.

Fitting mine today i'll let you know, They're not that stretchy though, so it's going to be tight.
