Seems like a sensible thing to do to me.

Someone using GPS to attack you, what do you do ? Turn it off.

The only thing he has done wrong is tell people about it. Wouldnt be surprised if the Uk would do the same. Its quite funny sometimes how people think that the government tell us everything they ever do.

Even so, What exactly is the problem with shutting down the gps and navigational network? news headline: SHOCKED AMERICANS HAVE TO USE MAP TO FIND WAY!! God even the thought of it makes me shudder Rolling Eyes

Sorry for the patronising rant of a post, but iv had a bad day.

Terrorists may be using GPS to attack, so lets ban it.

Terrorists have been proven to use guns, so lets laugh at any suggestions of banning them as it goes against the american way of life. Eh?

Research just in!!!

Terrorists require air, and they often drink water and eat food!!

To prevent terrorist activities continuing all three are being banned which should put a quick stop to all terrorism and make the world a much safer place. Razz

I know what has triggered that one. It is that Australian bloke who made a GPS guided cruise missile out of scrap in his back yard for AUS$2000 for a bet. It is accurate to about 200yds over 200 miles (further if he makes it bigger to carry more fuel).

He wanted to take the piss of his own government spending billions on a small number of cruise missiles when he can make them for next to nothing using equipment and technology entirely in the public domain (in this case some servos, a GPS, a programmable computer, a book on building pulse-jets from amazon, some commonly available plumbing fittings and scrap turbo unit)

Rumour has it that the CIA were turning the screw on him by hacking his bank account and suchlike. I will have to try and look up his web address again.

The US have already turned GPS off in Afghanistan and Iraq except for Military use.

The GPS satellite system I believe is owned and controlled by the US government.

Bush is shitting himself over the european system which I think is to start in '06 that will be accurate to within 1 metre and out of the US's control

Bush isnt the most articulate on the planet, and his administration has made some doozy of decisions. But this bush bashing for even the slightest and invalid reasons is really getting BORING now.

No, really it is.

I don't know what in the hell you're trying to get at with this thread. Is it that Bush is an idiot for seeing the potential for a GPS-based attack and is taking steps to protect the American people should such an attack take place? Thinking

It's my opinion that his securing the authority to deactivate the system in advance of an attack is a bit better than having his hands tied due to a lack of pre-ordained authority to do so. I guess some people just can't be pleased.

Pulse-jets are great!! Will try to find pics of the one me and me mate built on the back of a BMX (yes I do know it was stupidly dangerous, but a lot of fun). They are quite easy to build aswell Very Happy
