I'm looking at an ad for a little PW50 but I know very little about these kind of bikes or what to pay. I'm hoping the guy will take £200 (offer of £180 rejected) but I might pay more if it's worth it.

I can't tell much from the picture beyond the fact that the bike looks to be in desperate need of tidying up. https://www.gumtree.com/p/cars-vans-motorbikes/genuine-pw-50-yamaha-childs-motocross-bile/1036913538#photo-content

£300, is it a fair price or is he having a laugh?

i can attest that the pw's are bomb proof kiddies bikes, infact that was my first bike 30 years ago, i personally think 300quid isnt too bad, obviously id rather pay less, but for a bike that had been tryed tested and still is available 30 years on is something worth spending the cash on,

in no way would i even consider a pit bike, they are a dime a dozen and not even worth a hundred quid 2 years on,

the little pw will just keep on going and can be passed on to the next kiddie in the family,
parts are easily available, and easy to work on

Thanks Iain, good advice. Thumbs Up Smile

I'm wary of Chinese pit bikes after seeing a warning on BBC Watchdog about self-combusting, finger chopping mini motos but that 50cc "Lem" sounds like a genuine decent bike. Not sure I can afford it, it's right on the limitof my budget, but it's interesting. Safety is the number one priority so I'll have to do a bit of homework on which brands are okay.

Oh, and a conflicting opinion from "Hmmmnz". This is getting educational. Smile

I'd tend to go with hmmmnz - I'd certainly value a genuine Yamaha a good bit over a cheap Chinese bike.

Does depend on the intended use etc.
It's easier for a kid to 'grow' with a pit bike if they fit them in the first place - you can easily add bigger wheels, engines, clutch etc.

there is a limited time scale that the kids can use the pw,
they just get too big or need to move up to a bigger bike, i think i had it untill i was 5 and moved on to a geared bike, that same bike is still in my family though, my little nephew is currently learning on it, and i suspect once he has it'll be passed on to another member of the extended family,

PW50's are awesome.

Had mine since I was 4 (now 25) Dad had bought it about the time I was born so it's had plenty of abuse and still runs, still looks like new somehow!

Hadn't been started in 2-3 years and it kicked on the 2nd.

Would be a bike you wouldn't get rid of, as hmmmnz says. It'll be passed on in the family.

Wouldn't bother with the chinese pit bikes or anything similar.

Chineese mini moto.

If you can ever make the bloody thing start it'll be once before the pullstart cord snaps, very short lifespan, next to no resale value & very very unreliable.

Oh, and they dont really have brakes as such Laughing

But apart from that....it's awesome
