No questions, just an introduction

Hello all
I've been driving 26 years and at the age of 42 decided it was time to learn to ride a motorcycle, having watched my Dad go into a care home and realising i've got to try new things.
I completed my CBT at Camrider Cambridge on Thursday which was a lot of fun and am now just waiting until next weekend to go pick my bike up, a Yamaha TDR125.
I guess that's when the learning really starts.
I figure i'll spend up to 12 months getting some practice in and saving for the big bike test.

TDR is an interesting choice, it looks like a funky alternative to a Varadero 125. What led you in that direction?

not to far from you, lost my dad 5 years ago when I was 40 and it was an old bike he used to have the cb550 k3 which maybe resparked my interest

currently battling to restore it but that's have the fun

I chose the TDR purely because I like the look of them. I've never liked the riding position of sports bikes. I believe they're quite rare in Britain too so I'm hoping it'll hold it's money if I don't crash it :-)

Picking up biking is something you'll never regret. The little Yam will certainly help you cut your teeth ahead of you gaining your license.

Weirdly I too am new to biking & BCF and recently did my CBT at Cambridge Camrider after picking up the bug partly in the hope to spend more time with my dad due to his love of bikes.

So, same goes for me in terms of ride-outs etc.

How old is that? Looks brand new.

It was registered in 2006 and has done 6500 miles, thankfully by one mature owner who had it serviced regularly.
It is in near new condition, save for a couple of scuffs on the rear plastic from swinging boots

Done a few miles on it now and have a quick question.
During a round trip of around 50 miles today i find i start getting cramp in my right thumb, is this something anyone else gets? My age perhaps?

Right thumb? Giving too many thumbs up to other bikers? Not somewhere I'd expect to get cramp, but everyone's different. Normally its wrists (due to throttle/clutch) or a sore back due to riding position. Lovely bike BTW, first time I've been jealous of a 125 since losing my L plates

You're doing near enough the same thing as me, I'm slightly older and just decided to go for something new.
I did my CBT which was the first time I had ever ridden a bike with gears, the only other bike I had ridden was a twist and go on holiday one time.
I took and passed my CBT in Sept, bought a little 125 to practice on and then went for my test in May last year.
Passed the test and am now loving riding around Lincolnshire on a 800.
Most of the guys on here will give good sound advice, if they can stay on topic.
Have fun on the 125, it won't be long before you are itching to get on something bigger.

Not having been biking long I would take this with a pinch of salt but perhaps you are just gripping too tight. Relax (easier said than done I know), it will still twist even if you're not holding on for dear life.
