By the way, there are also 125cc and 200cc versions of this motorcycle, looks quite the same so I did not bother to post any pictures. You can check them on the site I've posted, there's 125 or 200 on the side panels of the motorcycle, according to the version.

As ever, disappointingly heavy when you can get a 5 year old KTM 690SMC which weighs less and makes a good chunk more power.

Oh and doesn't have stupid looking front end, of course.

That nose might have been futuristic in, say, 1980.

I actually quite like the lights.

I think you're being a harsh on it in terms in weight G it's hardly a barge.

As we know the tendency is for new bikes to be heavier than models of yesteryear.

A 135KG 125? That is a bit porky, suspect yoofs will be overtaken by OAPs on electric scooters. Just sounds heavy to me, like G said you can get single cyl. bikes with 4x the power and similar weight (690 SMC, Duke 690).

Oh God that front end! What a disaster, it sort of looks like an angry BMW GS.

Ok, compared to a CBr500 which makes the same power.

But when compared to another bike they make themselves which is more powerful with heavier wheels and longer travel suspension, it's not so good.

Of course, the issue is that this is a relative 'budget' bike I presume - intended to be a sheep in wolf's clothing to appeal to the kids.

It probably is the lightest 47hp bike out there, but that's just a sad reflection on the market.

At least it's got a 'proper' exhaust.

Hmmmm? in some sort of strange way I think it`s quite cool?

Looks like someone cut the front mudguard in half?
And those front lights Puke .

The whole thing is an aesthetic mess.

Apart from the lights (which look like they belong on a 1980s scooter), the front end looks like the b*stard love child of an Aprilia Futura, a 2012 ZX-10R and the latest Multistrada. And not in a good way.

The trellis frame looks (is) way more complicated than it needs to be (just compare it to an RC8).

The guy who knows what he's doing at KTM was obviously busy with something else (i.e. The 1290 Superduke).

They should have kept it simple:

I quite like it, it's got a "screw you then" sort of rakishness to its looks.

However, I wouldn't touch one with a bargepole until they sort out the quality issues that have plagued the 125.

I like it. If I was a twenty year old on a restricted licence I would be drooling. KTM have got their design shit together in a way other manufacturers could learn from. You walk into a KTM showroom and its a seamless display of bikes from 125s up to bonkers Supermotos. They all look good they all get good reviews they are all competitively priced and they make a good showing in sporting events.

I like it.

Is that 47.52 hp or is it available in two different specs, 47 or 52 bhp?

135 kg is pretty light for what it is. It's the price where it'll fall down as 'great starter sports bike'.

You've got your numbers a bit confused there.
That's 147kg and 43hp - and it's just 43hp I'm afraid. 52 would be pushing it a bit more for a single of that size.
So they've made a bike a little heavier than the 4 cylinder CBR250RR with similar power thanks to an engine 50% bigger.

Isn't progress wonderful? Smile

Numbers are misleading though. I think given KTMs reputation the bike will be a good ride. HP is not the whole story either there's torque and gearing to thik about and fueling mapping. Lots of things jist don't show up in the specs.

HP basically shows what gearing you can use thanks to torque*rpm Smile.

You may mean 'range of power'.

Do you mean KTM's reputation for making these new bikes on the cheap and them obviously being 'budget' in comparison to the rest of their range?
They could have used a sleeved down Duke 690 setup, which would have generally higher quality components etc. But that'd have been £2500 more expensive.
On their site they list it as 139kg, so it's actually about 10kg lighter than the 'proper' bike, though that makes it only 1kg lighter than the 690SMC-R.

Me, if I had that cash to spend on a single I'd get an older 690SMC and restrict it.
Much higher quality components and the like.

Im beginning to think you may be a pedant G Smile. So what your saying is KTM make a bike for you, but its the SM. I would agree I would much prefef6 a KTM SM but for your young stylish dude looking to lose his virginity the RC390 probably ticks more boxes.

A little late, but if you mean I'm pedant for pointing out you say 'HP is not the whole story', then quote what is essentially HP, then yes Wink.

And yes the hipster young stylish dude may not want a bike with decent components that will actually work better as a bike!
Sadly that's why we've got so many slow and heavy, poorly suspended 125s around the these days Smile.

Looks cool apart from the handlebars look a little too high for the kind of racey moto3 bike look its trying to give off.

big fan of this bike Cool may well get me back into riding. I've been hoping someone would make something like this for a while.

In terms of sports bikes most manufacturers seem to have a sporty 125 and then nothing else below a 600, this should fill the void for the less experienced or less power hungry riders looking for something reasonably quick and lightweight, but ultimately fun and a little less grown up!

The looks are a bit of an acquired taste but personally I like it, it's fresh and aggressive without too much compromise. Most similar bikes in this emerging class such as the Ninja 300 (and from what I've seen so far possibly the forthcoming Yamaha R3 also) look too soft and apologetic, the KTM looks like a racey small cc sports bike and proud!

Also being a big moto 3 fan I like the fact its a single, and USD WP forks and rear shock plus quality brakes seem a cut above those found on comparable bikes.

The only downsides I see currently is the question mark over the quality of the Indian built bikes, and the fact that it seems it will be twice the price over here than what it will be in India, I know this happens a lot with cars etc also, but we all want to think we're getting the most for our money and if the product is identical it's hard to get your head round paying 5k for it here if it can be bought for around 2k in India (this assumes my sums are correct!). Perhaps importing would be an option but I expect KTM have this wrapped up and won't sell to buyers from other markets.

Either way I really look forward to it coming out and seeing it in the flesh/reading the reviews, fingers crossed others will follow suit and bring out similarly focused fun sports bikes.

Console yourself with the thought that people pay more for Indian made Enfields that offer far less performance, then justify it by saying "But there's less to go wrong."

That said... they may have a point. Whistle

That would be a cool adventure... Fly to India, buy bike and ride it back... The only issue is the number of unstable countries between India and the UK...
