Anyone here an owner of this beautifully british sportsbike, then give me your feedback!

Few questions for you;

* How did u finance your daytona purchase? Hard saver or did u take triumph up on a finance option? I see from the market that they hold there money really well, rarely see a good one under 4k. I've never spent this sorta money on a bike so really keen to know how you went about it.

* secondly, did you test ride before committing. One of the things I'm told repeatedly when asking about this bike is that the riding position isn't for everyone?! What do u make of it? Is it really that harsh?

* next, what years your favourite? I've been doing a lot of research and see there where vast improvements in 09, worth holding out for one of these instead of 06-08?!

* lastly, what's the best mods you've made, I see a lot of manufacturers are catering for them now with done great aftermarket bits, but what's the best bit of money you've spent on it?

Erm, cash.

Yes, I did test ride. Yes, it is pretty racy riding position. But I was buying mine for racing, so that was ok.

Haven't ridden the latter ones.

Biggest modification was riding it into a tyre wall and some considerable speed. (Also did body-mods to myself at the same time.)
Aftermarket steering damper was really worth it, but not needed on a stock road bike. I would consider a quick action throttle, but not really needed on the road. Maybe a double bubble and crash mushrooms? Can't think of anything else that wouldn't that wouldn't just be cosmetic tat. Get yourself to a trackday and ride it Wink.

1. Personal loan. Worked a shitload cheaper than any other option and it's not tied to the bike.

2. Yes. It's an acquired taste but if it fits it's fine - I've done 250 miles days which is reasonable for a sportsbike and commute 30 miles each way with no aches and pains.

3. The 09s are an improvent over 06-08s but not in a huge way, more small refinements. The most significant being the piss poor rear shock which is progressively wound, so hard to set up and doesn't have enough rebound. I put a Nitron in mine and it is excellent. Everything else is similar. The 09 revs slightly higher but you would struggle to notice anything else.

4. Without a doubt, Techspec tank grips. The tank is very narrow, which makes it feel narrow and agile, you very much sit 'on' rather than 'in' it and Techspecs give your knees something to grip when braking hard or to hook your leg on to mid corner. Less abrasive on your leathers than Stompgrips too.

You can have mine with all the bits mentioned in the ad in my sig for £4.5k.

1) Personal loan through a credit union at work. As you say, they don't tend to lose a lot of money so it was no problem for me to get a loan for it.

2) Yes I rode it before buying, the riding position is very high when you first get on it. Coming from an FZ6 I felt like I was climbing on top of a fence. Once you get used to it, it's absolutely fine, and I can actually go further on the Daytona before it gets achy, than I could on my old bike. The biggest tip I could give is to grip the tank with your legs to support your weight, because otherwise the riding position will make you lean forward heavily on to your wrists.

3) Mine is an 07 model. I have ridden a 2010 model as well, but I rode them two years apart, so I couldn't give chapter and verse on the differences. They aren't worlds apart. I do recall that the brakes on the 2010 model seemed a lot better than on mine, but I'm going to change the pads for some higher spec ones to see if it makes a difference.

4) Mine came ready done by the previous owner, with a double bubble, a Triumph sports exhaust and a body-coloured hump instead of the rear seat. I don't really want to change anything else.

Just got given an 87 model 955i and it is a pain in the a*se! Bad starting on it and very slow engine cranking speed? Looks like it could be the sprag clutch that's at fault and that is a big job. Price of parts are astronomical too! Shocked when it does start it goes like hell....when it starts. Rolling Eyes

little difference between them to be honest.

I have a 2006 it has the better gearing but lesser rear suspension.

the suspension is the daytonas downfall unless you get the R.

If your light like me you will spend hours fucking about with it to get the perfect setup.

as im going to track mines now ill be upgrading the suspension

Get a Nitron race shock. The difference is amazing on road and track - you'll get one on eBay secondhand for less than £400.

I went for an aftermarket read shock on mine, but another rider I shared a garage with etc a couple of times just had his original one revalved.

He was a fair bit faster than me - not right up at the sharp end, but not far back (he'd won championships previous years). His rear tyre was pretty much always in amazing nick - just some very light bobbling, while mine tended to be a bit torn up.

Now, despite his no doubt faster corner-exits, I'm sure he was smoother, but I reckon some of it was suspension as well.

So I'd definitely consider getting the standard rear re-valved - it was enough for him to lap very at a very respectable pace that would easily be one of if not the fastest in the fast group on most trackdays.

But, frankly - I wouldn't consider the standard one limiting on the road for me. With my current level of riding, I very much doubt it'd be limiting on the track and I'm sure it can hold it's own in said fast group as stock.

While that may be so, the standard shock is the obvious weak link in the package and tricky to set up. The all or nothing damping is a pain and while it may not limit performance on the road it's certainly not comfortable.

Heard some owners complaining about the reg/rec on 2006 models and them constantly blowing?

There was a recall earlier this year.

I've owned a '59 Street Triple, '09 Daytona 675SE and now own a '13 Daytona 675R

Paid cash in full for all of them.

The only test ride I had done prior to owning a Triumph was riding my fathers Street Triple R, which then hooked me on the I3 motor.

My favourite year Daytona in terms of aesthetics is the 2009. The '13 has that bulbous front end and what not (Saying that, I do own the '13 and love it just as much)

On the 2013 model, the best modification I've done is junk the OEM exhaust and fit the SC Project GPM2 can. Removed the EXUP motor and the cat in the end can.

It is now much more responsive and accelerates like mad.

Actually that's a good point. Either the EXUP servo or the cable will break and it serves no purpose other than to make it quieter. Delete it using TuneECU.

Yep, just keep in mind;

if you do this on a 2013 model you have to go to your local dealer and then have them load on the Arrow race map to disable the EML light for the EXUP motor as TuneECU doesn't work on the '13s locked ECU.
