So, came time to renew my insurance policy.

I've been getting emails from my current insurers - MCE - promising 15 months for the price of twelve, just call the renewals hotline, yada yada yada and get it all started.

So, today, I did a search on Confused, got a load of quotes, including one from MCE for £141 fully comp. My current TPFT policy, with 0 no claims was £160.

£19 savings for a higher level of insurance wasn't a bad deal, so I called the 'renewals hotline' and went through the entire painful process of giving them exactly the same information that they were already reading on their screens.

As we got to the Generating Of The Quote, I mentioned I had a quote in front of me from Confused for £141 fully comp.

Little sigh from the telephone, then silence.

Half a minute later, he came back and said "The quote is for a 12 month policy, £166 fully comp, shall we go ahead with that?"

"Hold on, what about the 15 months for the price of 12?"

"You have consulted a price comparison website, so that deal is no longer available."

".....right, so why is the cover more expensive than my last policy?"

"You are getting a higher level of cover."

"Even with a years NCB?"

"That's right."

"....ok. What about TPFT then?"

"That comes to £155."

"Why, because I told you I used a price comparison website? I didn't have to tell you that you know."

"The calls are recorded sir and whether you had to or not, you did tell me, so that's the prices."

"I see. Well, in that case, I sincerely hope your company rethinks that insane policy, or at the very least tells people the consequences of being honest with you about exercising consumer choice. Nothing personal, but stick it up your company's arse."

Thieving cunts.

tl;dr Don't tell MCE you have used a comparison website if you are renewing a policy.

Edit: fixing a stuck potato in my typing. Wrote claim instead of policy. Thanks for the heads up Raffles.

Same with me and swinton...local shop would be about £40 more than swinton online....fair enough they have more over heads per policy but the staff are helpful and you can pop in and deal face to face ....never had a fault claim in 50x12 Month policy's bought but this year....shop wants £240 for fully comp on a 929 for a 42 yr old living in the sticks....online £106 .........that's a deal breaker and mce want £88 so.....time to change I guess! New buisiness= nice price.....existing buisiness get off your ass and find a new deal....same with cars tbh!

MCE were the wurst cnuts I ever dealt with (apart from the cheek fucker who answered the phone at Inurance4u.) Cheap is cheap for a reason, pay peanuts and get monkeys. (Oh... Was that racist?)

Funnily enough, the Nemesis of BCF insurance Brokers Hastings Direct now have three of my bike policies. The chap I talked to on the phone was most helpful. He probably won't be there when I have to make a claim or a change mind you. Smile

Are you aware that Confused get a kick back if you buy VIA THEIR SITE.
Going direct to ins co will see you paying more, unless broker will match it.

Did the confused site mention 15 months for the price of 12?

Also on the 15 for 12. This seems a good scam to decrease your NCB.

Every 4 years claim free, ins you pay you only get 3 years NCB......
