rear tail bags.....

Hi BCF!
im after a fashionable accessory to sit on the rear end of my motorbike.
i canny afford those divvy boxes that require the rail, so thought of a large bum bag type thing to strap through the pillion grab rails.

there are some waterproof oxford ones, but they are stupid expensive.
i just need one big enough to shove my motocycle cover into (its a light weight thin oxford one) and maybe even some handy wipes/microfibre cloth to give the bike a wipe down after a particularly messy episode.

does anyone use these? or am i a complete faggy fag end for wanting one? advise/abuse if you would be so kind.....

tried the bungees (sans backpack) but i'm after something i can leave on the back of the bike (with non valuables stored in it). mainly at work in the work car park.

what i need is something that has a strap that you permanently attach/leave on the bike which you can then attach/detach the bag to it.
a crude example would be to have velcro on the bottom of your backpack and then a patch stuck to the rear end of your bike/seat.

what im thinking of is something a 'like' that, but a bit more secure.....

am i making sense?

I wouldn't leave anything in a bag on the bike, even in the tank bag.

I've had a couple of tail bags, one Motrax (no longer made) and now a Viper branded one.

They've both been simple affairs with bungees running through them that hook on to whatever you have available on the bike. It's the matter of moments to remove them, either for you or for a wandering vagabond. I've never seen one that attaches in another way.

If you keep an eye out, you can get a cheap topbox pretty, err, cheaply. Especially if you go second hand.

Much prefer a topbox as you can lock it and don't need to worry about it wobbling off!

If you're not taking pillions and don't mind a bit of abuse to your seat, on sports bikes I've just mounted the top box on the rear seat.

Right, I should note that a tail bag is my 4th resort after top box, tank bag, and panniers.

I'm currently using a bin bag tied to the pillion seat using two extra long boot laces to keep my waterproofs in while travelling. . Thumbs Up

Admittedly, it wouldn't be my first choice, had I been more organised and realised/checked sooner than the night before getting the boat to the UK, to see if everything fitted into my backpack but, a last minute panic turning the flat upside down looking for some long string, all adds to the experience.

It done the job a treat though Mr. Green
