Poor running / misfires.

Just spent the last week bringing the Jota back to life. Carbs cleaned, new plugs and battery. Started reluctantly and would only run for about a minute or two before backfiring and generally running rough with no tickover. Spent a lot of time re-checking carbs.
Turned out to be very high resistance plug caps, one measured infinity, another about 8 or so Megohms. New set of caps cured everything, nice tickover and crisp throttle response.
These are getting on for 35 years old so can't really complain but well worth checking for odd running problems..

Amazing how many people don't realise that wiring and connectors deteriorate over time. Checking and replacing ancient wiring usually achieves more than frigging about with fueling.

Having experienced misfires on the Exup1000 I found that one of the internal resistors had gone open circuit on one of the four plug caps.So I replaced the resisitors with brazing rod cut to the same length.Problem cured and now all of the power gets through to the spark plugs.

The same modification has also been carried out on the other bikes,with no detrimental effect at all.If anything,the bikes run far better.

Just as another point, resistor (supressed) caps were introduced to cut interference with radios and TV's. Everyone's on digital now so no real need for them, let your plugs see full voltage!
