Grangemouth Closing

I may be a little out of touch here but I read that the owners of Grangemouth told the unions that they either accept their offer (of changes to pensions and shift allowances) or they shut the plant.
The unions (overestimating their importance) said "No way José".
The owners said "OK, we're shutting down the plant".

Now the general news is that every man and his dog is saying that the unions are cacking their pants and saying "OK, we agree" and isn't it great that the plant is staying open.

If I were the owners I'd be saying "You had your chance and you blew it, Sayonara!"

Isn't it kinda like betting at a casino and when your numbers don't come up, asking for your money back?

Communist Unite scum!!!

The proposed cuts were cuts to overtime pay, a three-year pay freeze and an end to the final salary pension scheme.

Still, the Unite bosses will be okay in their mansions, with their £100k+ pay cheques and big pensions. It's a shame about all the British industries that they've destroyed to get those perks.

Basically they needed I think £10 million of savings and cutting staff and what not.

Owner said to the workers that he would give every worker £15,000 if they didn't strike for three years, so an extra five grand a year for free, just don't strike.

Unite said no calling the owners bluff

Unite didn't expect owner to close it.

Presumably a bit biased towards Jim Ratcliffe no doubt.

But interested to see that this self-made man that has humble origins is putting in £300m.
I don't see the Unions offering to invest this sort of money to keep jobs going there.
