First spill

Well, I just had my first spill.

Just pulled out of the driveway and on to the main road and opened the throttle, the bike started moving and then lost power briefly (I guess the engine was still a bit cold) but then the power came back and the bike lurched, and over I went.

Damage: scuff on the top box, bent the left foot peg, bent clutch lever and it looks like I've bent a fork or something as the front wheel isn't straight any more.

Luckily I'm ok, the guys working on next door's house ran over and lifted the bike off me and got it upright and made sure I was alright - could have been worse I guess!

It won't be that much!

On ebay you can get a used hanger for less than 20 quid gear lever less than 15 and you might find the handle bar is bent rather than the forks. I'd hope so after such a low speed fall! And handle bars are gonna be in the same reason of price. All these things bolt on and off.

It'll be a good way to learn about your bike. Give us a shout on here and there will be someone who has replaced the very same thing you're replacing.

Given my mechanical skill I'd feel safer getting it down to the shop for a once over (and I think the better half would feel happier too).

The local shop has quoted £66 an hour plus parts - is that about right?

See if someone on here can do it cheaper! the forks are probably just twisted in the yokes.

@Paddy - Not sure it's safe to ride at the moment to be honest. I'll need to take a closer look at it but I think it's possibly a little dangerous

If you do manage to get here and you and I feel its not safe, I can pop it in the van and drop you back.

In all honesty, a slight twist in the yokes isn't all to bad, I've ridden a bike like it for a while over a few thousand miles and not really noticed much difference

Foot peg just hammers straight, my brother bent his, handle bars are cheap but they will bend back, that or twisted the forks in yolks, it takes a good thump to bend forks lol, I have a pair with a 5mm bend from my old YBR (previous owner I believe), if yours are really shagged you can have these, just collect them, no rust or pitting.
They work fine even with the slight bend or pay the £25 and have em straightened.

Right I've had a closer look now and it looks to my untrained eye like it might just be the handlebars that have bent rather than a problem with the forks.

I've just done a couple of laps round the block and it's rideable which is good news as at least I can get to work.

Massive thanks to Banger for fixing my bike this evening, and big thanks to Paddy also for the advice given.

Probably both saved me a fortune if I'd gone down to the garage!
