Thoughts?

Looks rather like a stop gap to me. You can really see that times are tight at Honda.

"Quick lads, slap some Ohlins forks, and Brembos on it. That'll do for another two years. Let's go to the pub."

Confused

What makes it look like a 125?

Seat unit looks like single seat only on this SP version.

Yeah to be fair it really does look like a 125, especially with those big front dual brembo brakes and chunky ohlins forks, the fireblade sticker is further proof of it looking like a 125, oh and that nice thick chain just adds even more 125 aesthetics.

Only because sport 125's are all trying to look like inline 4 supersports. the R125 has side panels for the only purpose of making it wider Question

I'm sure it won't be long until the CBR125 gets 'fireblade' stickers Smile.

the '08 onwards CBR's were obviously designed by a blind man (more likely his guide-dog), probably high on Saki at the time. The design is ugly beyond belief, performance well down on the opposition, reports of high oil consumption.....What a mess Honda. (And that from a confirmed 'blade nut).

Fair, apart from the performance bit. It makes me chuckle every time I read this.

Most of the graphs I've seen have shown the Fireblade to be broadly comparable to the R1, and GSXR1000 with 150-160 bhp. Panigale, and S1000RR excepted, it's fairly typical.

In any case for such a crap bike, it does sell rather well.

And even while the CBR may have been a bit down on peak power compared to some, the graphs show massive midrange.
Won't make up for

But yes, horribly ugly.
Like they drew up a design in wax. Then left it out in the sun and it melted.

The RR7 was, in my subjective opinion, the peak achievement in Fireblade beauty. Especially in Repsol livery. Which was why I lost my head and purchased one brand new. Wasted

Maybe they are hoping to win some superstock championships and offer a better platform for superbike teams whilst retaining the "base" model for their considerable following.

Plus I'm sure plently of orders will come in from road/trackday riders too.

Win win Honda maybe?

Thumbs Up

I dunno.... People whinge about pointy transformers and bikes that have too much power and aren't useable on the road, then Honda brings this out and people go "Oh it's ugly, it's not pointy enough, it's not fast enough!".

Jeez.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

Anyone else getting bored with the de facto fitting of cheap ohlins and brembos to make it an SP/R model?

Seems to be a very common trend of late.

Yep the Ohlins that comes new on S/SP/R etc models isn't as good as the stuff you would buy direct from Ohlins to fit your standard model. The owner of MCT Suspention told me that. He said you are better off getting the standard model and spending the extra £2k+ on 'proper' forks/shocks etc.

I wouldn't say ohlins forks or shocks are cheap, more like ridiculously fucking expensive, I'd love to have them on a bike myself.

For example the Ohlins fitted to the Yamaha XJR1300. Not "real" ohlins. Just rebadged cheap stuff. Wink . Yamaha own Ohlins, so it was an easy trick for them to pull.

Race teams are going to bin the suspension as their first job anyway, it's more a fashion statement than anything else. Then again perhaps owning a litre bike is a fashion statement in its self, so I'm not really sure where I'm going with this. Razz

In the world of Ohlins, the stuff they put on these models, is definitely cheap in comparison to the proper stuff.

As I said, any race team's going to chuck the ohlins suspension straight in the bin for a proper TTX shock, and race forks at the first opportunity anyway.

What's SP about it? Back in the days when Japs where at the top, SportProduction was basically a race bike with lights. This SP looks like something what an rich bored kid would do with a standard CBR. Thumbs Down

The spec states the rear shock as a TTX36 now I don't know whether that is the same TTX36 you can buy from Ohlins?

I remember when the Triumph 675R came out all the jounalists raved about how the Ohlins was the proper kit.

I guess the difference with a race bike is that the team would have different springs and fork internals to suit different tracks and conditions. Obviously for a mass production road bike the suspension has to be a one size fits all /fits all conditions, all be it with some adjustment.

Thumbs Up
