Anyone any experience of these? Looks a bit outlandish but a good idea? ____________________ The CBR900RR has been sold. Aprilia Falco worms its way into my heart.

He does.
He's found that it got a decent fitting system, but it needs a fair amount of screen available to fit it. It won't really fit on the standard screen on a GPZ500S or F650GS without obscuring the instruments, for example, or you'd need the bar mounting kit which would put it low down. Read on for his issues with that.
He'd then opine that it's pretty well designed and put together, and works as advertised, giving very wide angled vision. You can actually see things in it that are slightly ahead of the bike.
However, he'd have a couple of caveats.
First, he'd note that while it does give that wide angle, most of it isn't useful, since it's full of either you, or the road far to the side of the bike that you can already see. The actual portions of it that show the blind spots are relatively small, and you have to learn where they are.
Second, he finds it tricky to remember to look in it, since his ingrained routine is to look to the side into the bar or fairing mirror, and then move his eyes and head further around in the same direction to look over-the-shoulder.
The Riderscan queers that progression, making it: look in bar mirror, then back to the Riderscan in the centre of the bike to find those small areas that show you the blind spots, and then you really still have to do a final over-the-shoulder anyway, since the Riderscan can only confirm that something is there, not that something isn't. Having it up on a screen at much the same height as the bar mirrors means it's a right-left-right (or vice versa) eye/head movement. If you had to buy the bar mount kit and put it low down directly on the bars then you'd have to throw vertical movement in there too which would exacerbate the issue, in his opinion.
While he accepts that sounds a bit negative, he would note that there have been a couple of times when using it has shown something in the blind spot that he'd naughtily assumed wasn't there from a regular glance in the mirror. His shoulder checks would probably have saved him anyway, but it only really needs to save you once to more than pay for itself.
His verdict would be: works as advertised, but you really have to try it out to know if it's going to be a valuable tool for your particular bike and style of obs. No strong recommendation either way.
Finally, he'd add that if someone were to make auxiliary wide angled mirrors that could be mounted next to and in addition to regular bike mirrors, he'd be on them like Operation Yewtree on a nonce. He'd explain that he's not talking about ones that stick on to the existing mirror glass (which would be a trade off) or ones that clamp on to an existing mirror, since those are designed to work with car mirrors with a big lip. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

All-round vision in a car is 100x worse than on a bike without one of these. The guy should make a kit for cars with a rearward 180 degree camera on the roof |

So you're selling it because it was the most pointless thing ever, and because shoulder checks are free ____________________ Stinkwheel: You have no right to free speech

It works if you re-train yourself to use it. I still reckon the right price point is £10 from Wing Wang's House o' Imports, but it's not there yet and half price is pretty good. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.

You could use a couple of big round '80s Suzuki Chrome indicators the same way
These look a bit like them little panoramic mirrors you stick on the door mirror on a motor. ____________________ Space Is Deep |
