Alright peeps.

See attached clip of my bike with a new exhaust on it. Excuse the shitty quality of it, was using an older fuji 2800z digital camera.

Just one question, is it supposed/is it okay to backfire/cough like that when I was slowing down coming towards the camera?

Just, the old exhaust didn't do it. I assume its just running a bit richer or something along those lines.

P.S You'll probably hear my failed wheelie attempt from the pitch of the exhaust, although my bike just appears as a blob of grey on the screen. Laughing

Sounds like most bikes ive heard with an aftermarket exhaust. You wanna hear a lad i know's ccm640 with a remus can, it sounds like gunshots are being fired when he pulls up to traffic lights!

Its not backfiring, its just unburnt fuel in the exhaust igniting. Backfiring is when the burnt fuel/air mixture is forced out throught the carbs with a puff off smoke.

That sounds very sexy I must say. Thumbs Up Cool (Dodsi, take note and buy one, now!)

Instigator, how much did the can cost?

Also, did you make any carb modifications to make up for increased exhaust flow or wasnt it necessary?

Hmm, the bikes still restricted to 33bhp so far, and it ahs no mods made to the carb, although it probably should do, after almost halfing the power and putting on a different exhaust is bound to have upset something. No idea if its supposed to be rejetted or whatever when you put it on, but it runs very smoothly and I feel the bikes a bit smoother now.

Got the exhaust off ebay for £80 including £15 p&p, so I was well chuffed with that. This is the first time I'd seen a remus exhaust up on ebay for the er5, and it had 2 bids on it with 9 days to go, standing at £32. Foolishly, the seller ended the auction for me, whereas he could have probably sold it for about £150.

After interest from a bmw traffic cop the other day(he didn't find me), I'll leave it restricted for yet another couple of weeks.

your backfiring is caused by a lean pilot circuit after fitting the aftermarket exhaust ,not much to worry about unless you want to knacker the exhaust packing slowing down using high revs on overrun the yamaha wr are really bad for this fault but very easy to sort out .

We used to let the bike run a little richer to cure unwanted popping Thumbs Up

Not sure why because the plug look fine. Confused

The back fire is down to the mixture getting lean.
The new zorst probally lets more gas flow so, you need to richen the mixture to compensate.
To do this proper you need to stick it on a Dyno.
In bad cases, lean mixture can burn the valves and cause overheating ect
You may have taken the power above your restriter limit too?
Just my bit of knowlege, ignore me and I go away Laughing
