Hello all, i am new to the forum and in need of a bit of advice. My girlfriend has just done her CBT so i got her a cheap CG125 just to get her started on. I won it off ebay with the advert saying that the gear return spring needed changing, After i went to pick it up i realised that there was something else wrong.
You can change up gears perfectly but once in a while when you try and change down the pedal will do nothing, feel like when your already in first and try and change down. It will do it in any gear and after a bit of messing around and trying, you can get it to change down and then it will be fine.

I have had the clutch cover off and could'nt see anything obvioulsy wrong, clutch looked ok and nothing loose or broken. Because it will do it in any gear i don't think its a bent selector fork. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Any chance that the lever just isn't clamped tightly enough onto the selector shaft, or that the splines (more likely on the lever than the shaft) are stripped? This is a moderately common issue on the Chinese copy engines.

Is any of the springs broken?, to know that for sure I would assume they have had the box apart, I have not long tightened my brothers gear selector up as his was flopping about and not changing gear properly on his latest YBR, luckily he had not stripped the splines in the shaft.

Cheers for the advice. I will be back home tonight and see whats going on. I Couldn't get a good look at things last weekend as i didn't have the tool to undo the castle nut on the oil spinner. fingers crossed it's something simple and i dont have to split the engine.

ok, just in from playing around with it the CG. I took the gear shaft off and it looks to be in good condition, all springs are fine. The only thing that i noticed was that on the edges of the selector plate (#9), where it is in contact with the camp/ate(#5) there was some wear, Not a huge amount but obvious. Could this be causing the problem? even with the small amount of damage ?

Regards

Nah, Thought that i'd try the cheaper, smaller things and it seemed to work well. Mine didn't look too worn so i was happy leaving it.

Thank you guys. I have ordered the new part but for now i took the old one off and filed the edge flat again and it seems to be working fine. I'll fit the new one when it arrives though just to be safe.

Second question though, I wanted to change the clutch while i have the cover off, but i'm stuck with getting the castle nut off of the oil filter. Even with a piece of wood though the back wheel, in 5th gear and back brake on, when i try and undo the nut the clutch will just slip. I'm sure a impact driver would work but i don't have one so is there any tricks to getting this nut loose.

regards

Silly question it hasn't got a split pin though it or something? I've never changed a clutch on something so small but I very much doubt you should be able to put enough force though it to make it slip even if it is fucked.
