Does anyone have one? Are they worth it?

My dads got a goldwing and my mum goes pillion, they travel abroad and all across the country with they're bike club, thinking of getting them both one for Christmas.

And possibly getting one for myself, just dunno if medical services would actually use it.

We all have medical problems and are on medications.

No, because if they are in an accident the medical services take fuck all notice of them. The patient is always checked for blood type before a transfusion even if they are wearing tags.

I might give the cops a heads up who to go and see if said person was dead but that's about it.

I have one, I used to do go away for a lot of weekends so often rode for long periods of time on my own far from home so thought it would be best. No i wont ride without it for fear of being the one time i dont have it could be the one time i need it, much like my back protector i put on even just to pop to the shops, etc etc.

Someone did however point out, probably on here, that if you were involved in an accident as its basically a USB pen the emergency services wouldnt be permitted to plug it into their system to check your details for fear of a virus. true or not i dont know, surely when they designed and promoted it they'd have had to check that they could use them in hospitals etc.

Either way i'll always wear mine and for the money I think its worth having, even for your peace of mind when they go away and not just theirs.

This is exactly what I heard. Might well be some truth in it. I have a card that sits in my helmet just under the lining with details on it. I have my wife saved as "ICE" in my phone and carry a note in my wallet saying the same info.

I don't see the point in them at all. Of course they don't check them, the information could be wrong. They would have to check themselves anyway. They definitely wouldn't plug a USB stick in to get info off it.

You want to share data, do yourselves a favor and DON'T opt out of Summary Care Records. Your information is shared amongst services via systmone and EMIS (electronic patient records) and it means they don't have to contact your GP surgery to get information (which can take time)

We get ward pharmacists and clinicians ringing asking for allergy and medication info daily, it'd be a fuck lot more effective if it was just shared electronically.

As a present it'll be ideal, thoughtful and caring and it will save you having to think of something else. However in real life I don't think they are useful.

I use a dog tag with my ICE info on as my keyring. Although thinking about it I've not long moved house and need to get a new one...
