Anyone who goes up Rivington Barn will probably know Susan who takes photos of all the riders every week.

She was given a load of abuse by some biker for taking his photo and he threatened to follow her home. She usually stands on her own, on a corner right up in the hills (Belmont) and has a stand at Rivington Barn, probably a few off here know here as well.

Pretty interesting debate going on here about taking photos of bikers/people without their permission.

Load of fucking bollocks if you ask me, who the fuck cares?

Why does she do this?

Theres a bloke in the lanes of essex on the way to Burnham on sea that sits on a bend taking pictures. Always assumed he was against bikes and sent pics to police of those who look to be going a bit fast.

They do it because they can make money off it. They take pictures and sell them on, presumably the only real person to be interested in an individual picture is that subject matter himself... unless it's a particularly cool looking picture that appeals to others (Unlikely.)

Public space, pictures of people and such are allowed (as much as I am aware) so she's doing nothing wrong. If you have such a big problem with it, ask her politely to delete it and see how you get on. No need to be making threats against someone for something so innocent.

If she's in a public place there's nothing he can do about it. He can request that she doesn't take any photos but that's it. If he doesn't want his photo taken he shouldn't go to gatherings.

If she was family to me I'd be there with her next week running off reels as soon as he turned up Smile

Because she's a photographer. It's perfectly legal to take photographs of any person in a public place and to do whatever she wants with them.

The biker is a total bellend. If he was that bothered then a simple polite request would probably have sorted it for him.

She does make some money from it but also does a lot for charity. Anyway, that's besides the point...

As I said in that status, nobody can stop you taking photos of adults in public.

This. Amazing how many people, including coppers and especially fuckstick hi-viz security jobsworths, think they can tell you what you can or can't do in public with a camera. She is perfectly at liberty to snap whatever she likes, with a few very notable exceptions, and use the pictures for whatever purpose she fancies, including commercial.

Make that 'anyone' in public. That includes kiddies.

What is the law regarding taking photos in a shopping centre.

I took a few on a small compact, not a massive SLR of nobody in particular and the security guard gave me all this bull about needing a permit. I couldn't be bothered to argue but surely that would be for commercial photography not a couple of happy snaps Confused

Shopping centre would almost certainly be private land, so the jobsworth was within his rights. In most such places, you do indeed need to seek permission. But there is a grey area if the place appears to be public and isn't clearly marked out being a private piece of land.

You go somewhere like Bluewater and it's obviously not a public place. Most places have a sensible policy - if you stop and take a couple of snaps of your mates/other half/kids etc, no bother. But if you stand about snapping shoppers as they go by, you'll probably get some security guard asking you to stop.

Yeah it's an indoor shopping centre and quite obviously private property, I've never noticed a sign saying no photography or private property though.
My photo was of the shopping centre itself, not anybody in it but it would have been impossible to not have random people in the photo.
Just seemed strange that I'd need a permit for a touristy snap. I bet a family taking photos of each other wouldn't be confronted even though their photos would also include random members of the public in the background.

Also they'd be far less likely to bother anyone using a phone rather than any 'serious' camera, even though most of them now take pictures and video as good as a high end compact from 3 or 4 years ago.

I don't see why the guy was so bothered tbh and as has been previously mentioned, he could have just politely asked her to delete it. The bloke sounds like a dick.

Over either TT or Grand Prix (can't remember which one), there was a guy taking photos at the Gooseneck. The only concern I actually had was that it was a bit off-putting to unexpectantly see someone directly infront of me, raising up his camera and pointing it in my direction as I was trying to negotiate the bend.

I wouldn't have minded a copy of the photo though. Very Happy

A lot of them put up a "smile, photographer ahead" sign so you can get your game-face on before you come into the corner.

Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't appreciate having my photo taken by a stranger. Not that I'd threaten to follow the photographer home of course.

A few years ago I was waiting at traffic lights, having filtered to the front of a queue when some bloke crossing the road stopped halfway, pulled out a camera and took a photo. Presumably he wanted evidence of my "illegal" filtering or he was a spacker that liked bikes, annoyed me either way.

Google 'FanTTastic Photograpghy, I think that's the name of the company who does it. They definately hangs around there. He also had a stand at the Creg too, displaying his wares.
