I recently bought 4 x par 56 and 4 x par 64's (along with some other lights) and a Eurolight LC2412 lighting desk
now being that I'm a sound engineer this Lighting malarkey is all new to me
up till now I just set up my existing lights as master / slave and set master to sound to light
and connected them using DMX cables in pairs (2 x acme dynamo and 2 Acme Super Scimitars)

I've figured out how to control the Par's to give me RGB on 6 channels 3 for the par 56 side and 3 for the par 64's
but thats as far as I can get, I can't get the chase mode to function
or the sound to light
in fact all I can get it to do is the RGB off the faders I have set up

the manual isn't great but here is the info I have on the lights DMX settings

CH-1 MODE 0 - 63 = RGB Control, 64 - 127 = 7 Colour fades, 128 - 191 = 7 Colour changes, 192 - 255 = 3 Colour changes
CH-2 RED 0 - 255 = DIM
CH-3 GREEN 0 - 255 = DIM
CH-4 BLUE 0 - 255 = DIM
CH-5 Speed 11 - 100 = high to low, 151 - 255 = Speed control by the device, via music or controller

On Line Manual for the par's

Eurolight Online Manual

any help appreciated as I want to get into this to improve out shows and lighting capability's

You need to make sure that you are not using dip switch 8 on the back of the par to start with.
They appear to be 5 channel so for example set your first pars at DMX address 1, you should then have 5 faders of control.

To get the chase mode to function you need to make sure fader 1 is above 64% and the your 5th fader should give you speed control of your chase.

We have some of these at the theatre I work at and they are a right pain to use unless you have a console designed for moving lights and LEDs.

Let me know how you get on,

Michael

Back when I was gigging I stayed away from DMX because I couldn't get my head round it.

Instead, I used NJD Spectres with their own controller. Dials for intensity, speed, etc. Me and my dad would listen to tracks and jot down appropriate settings. He would then use the crib sheet at the gig to twiddle the appropriate dials. Strobes and floods would be on footpedals.

cheers, took me a bit to figure out the fader values, but got it sussed now
I've set up 2 banks 1 - 5 are running one bank and 10 - 14 on the other
allowing me to have set RGB or sound to light & chase in different combinations

now next trick is to get my smoke machines to linked up to the special keys
I may even go for a software controlled DMX box as my laser control software does DMX
that way I can program shows all in the one place and store them
and run them all from the laptop

Have a look at Magic Q as it's a great piece of software where you can either use a dongle or one of their desks.
I think the dongles start at £10 and £60 and desks start at around £600.
