The bike is an er6f 61 plate

I'm 31 only passed full bike test last week. Did the direct access, got no previous years riding this is my first ever bike.

10 years driving. No points in DL and 1 fault accident about 3 years ago.

So far cheapest is £370 with Hastings.

Is this about right??

There is no real logic in it, I'm afraid. But you're looking at a 3k bike, I would not consider £370 to be extreme (though of course I'd like it to be as low as possible.)

Try just motorcycle insurance, through their own site and they see if they're cheaper.

It'll be less than that, £370 is around what I got quoted and I'm 22. I do have a years no claims though...

A fine choice of automocycle, however.

It's insurance. Dark sorcery and quantum mechanics seem to be involved in determining your premium. Try and haggle it down, or use multiple comparison sites to whittle it further. Either way, there is no 'right' answer, aside from the one that you're happy with.

So, as you thought my BMW insurance was 'taking the piss' here's a quote I did.

ER6F ABS 2011

I'm 36, held licence for 18 years, one non-fault RTA, no bike NCB. I didn't bother fannying around with the excess because it'll only make 50p difference anyway.

Hope that helps.

I've got it down to £320 ish tpft.

I think it's down to this being my first ever bike with no experience of riding a bike before.

I had a mess round and put in 2010 when I got my bike licence and it went down to £140! They obv want you to be riding a few years before they give the cheaper quotes out.

Ah well.

Yeah I've tried them. Everyone says to use them however still not very good.

I'm going to give it a miss I think, works out cheaper to insure another car I can use.

Ah well they make the tests/barriers harder to enter biking them double the misery with high insurance quotes. I can see why bike schools are feeling it hard in current climate not very inviting for noob riders!

So, you're keen enough to spend £3500 on a bike, but baulk at paying £320 for insurance?

'kin hell, buy a mint late model GPZ500 for 1/3 of that, all in. Wink

Simply, what other people pay will not be what you pay. There are websites to look on. Here's my list that I used for a CG recently:

Tiger
bikeinsurer
moneysupermarket
comparethemarket
gocompare
tesco

All those are comparison sites and should pretty much cover everybody. Then whatever you think is reasonable for you, pay that. But in my first year (only in my second now) I struggled to get a bike quote for less than 450.

You do seem to be crying about an issue that isn't there.

I remember paying £600 to insure my bike. Laughing

Are you seriously crying about your first insurance quote on a big bike? Laughing

First car was £1500, not pleasant but it was a car. Smile

First bike was £350, imagine the party I had with such a low price. Shocked

I now pay £700 for a car and £180 for 4 bikes. They are only that cheap because its a multibike policy. That has a 1 litre twin, 2 125s and a 600 twin.

Shop around or find a different bike?

Here's an idea for you.

Have a better look around, find the same bike privately for £400 less.

Then, it's like you're being paid 80quid to insure it Thumbs Up

Either that, or stop whinging.

The only person, ever, you can ask 'how much will insurance cost me' is an insurance agent. At best, anyone else's response is going to be wild speculation.

That isn't me Wink

I also have had shit loads of bikes all with their own policies. If you are crying about this, have you checked the price of tyres, getting the valve clearances done or a new exhaust system?

Insurance is a tiny amount which decreases over time... the others aren't. Thumbs Up

Of course there are lots of factors involved, but my first bike was an FZ6, at age 27 insured with wicked quotes (or ramesis) for under £200. No experience etc, bike parked up in a good area though. Dependant on your location, you should be hopeful of under 200 quid.
