Aaaaah, you could probably find a quote of me saying "that'll never happen to me, I always remember".

Parked up today and went into my local pc world to looks for a 10metre RJ11 Cable. After 10 minutes of searching for it, I found their cable section. So, 10 minutes of searching only to find they were charging £11.99 for a 2.1m cable.

I was disgusted and walked out of that place. What did I expect mind, they are rip-off merchants. Now, maybe it was my pissed off attitude after leaving the store that made a certain red object slip my mind but, I hopped on the bike, started it up and off I went, for about 30cm until "crunch" and i hit the deck and the handlebars caught a toyota yaris on the way down. Bike revved its tits off as well when it went down and managed to get just about EVERYONES attention thanks to the feckin remus exhaust.

In the end, my clutch and attached bits are now pointing skywards which made for an interesting ride home, along with a bust speedo cable and another dent on the bar end. Disc brake seems to be okay, the disc lock was fairly rooted into the disc when I picked it up, but managed to hammer it back out with my fist.

Humph....don't even feel like playing with my new mobile now.

I'll just blame it on pc world. They're all scum really, aren't they?

P.S Sorry mr/s. toyota yaris owner, I don't think I was the one that slightly dented your car, I waited about for you for 10 minutes. Just as well the car park didn't have cctv. Embarassed Shocked

PC world caters for people who don't know any better. It pisses me off to high heaven the ammout they over charge for dirt cheap parts/cables. Same as a few other companies I might care to mention in the same rip-off-shit-service chain. Dixons, Currys, The link....

Unlucky with your bike tho matey.

Bad luck mate, I did the samething a few times on my ER-5. And I could curse the designers of the bike for putting the speedocable on the same side as the disc!

Just do make sure you haven't buckled the disc by doing it or cracked a the caliper mounting, also when I did it I found the front brake to be spongy. Its just air has got into the system from when the bike was on its side just hold the brake lever in for a few seconds and braking pressure should resume normally. Smile

Yeah, it did feel spongy at the start but its back to being satisfactory now.

Now, I've just got a 35 mile jaunt on a bike with no speedo, over my bhp limit and with an illegal exhaust.

Traffic cops would have a field day on me if they were clever enough Sad

Thats were you should know your bike, and read the speed from the rev counter, on the ER-5 If I remember rightly 3500RPM in top gear equates to about 30MPH, 50MPH is about 6000RPM and 70MPH is about 8000RPM. Smile

I got quite used to it whilst waiting for the speedo cable to arrive at my local dealer, didn't get pulled once either. Though I did have a road legal exhausts and properly restricted bike Razz.

Deffo was.

I had a shite day at work once, had to stay until well into the evening trying to get a site finished. I stomped outside to my scooter, turned the key and revved the shit out of it while still on the centre stand... the cracking noise echoing along the street reminded me that I hadn't removed the chain through the back wheel. Neutral

Oh no! Sorry to hear that, I don't blame you for blaming PC World either!

I recently rode my bike a couple of miles to my parents house, then when I got there I realised I'd left one of my locks on my front wheel (the sort that you get free with bike mags designed to lock your lid to your bike).

I had wondered why it seemed so bumpy! Rolling Eyes

I blame you for even going to PC World in the first place. Razz

Bet the owner of the Yaris will be pleased you've etched your bike bar-ends into their doors and scarpered. Merry Christmas though huh?

Thumbs Down

He should have actually left his details on the vehicle to say you damaged it. You never know someone could have taken your reg down and reported it.
The you could get done for leaving the scene of an accident without leaving your details and therefore loose your licence! Shocked

Actually that is pretty disrespectful of you to leave the scene of that as it sounds like it could cost a bit for the car to be repaired. Confused

I don't think you'd like it if a cager accidently reversed into your bike knocking it over and leaving would you? Karma

An accident is defined as a traffic accident if it occurs on a road or in a place to which the public have access. This can include footpaths and bridleways. In Scotland, a public road is one that a local authority has a duty to maintain. So, if the car park is maintained privately, i.e. by the people who built the retail park and not the local council, you get off scot free. Wink

Failing to stop after an accident can get you 5-10 points.
Failing to give particulars or to report an accident within 24 hours 5-10 points again.
Undefined accident offences, whatever that means, 4-9 points.

Just to make you feel better mate. Laughing

Even if it is privately owned and the 'leaving the scene of an accident' charge does not apply (which I seriously doubt btw) then if the owners of the Yaris have witnesses a criminal damage charge could be used instead, no?

Totally agree, I'd be majorly hacked off if I came back to my cage and found it with damage and no note.

As said, I waited about 10 minutes for the owner to come back until I looked closer at it. The dent couldn't really have been done by me, as it was more rounder, as if from another bumper from a car. If it was my handlebar, then it'd have been more focused onto one area.

I just saw it 1 second after droping the bike and thought the worst. Shocked Not an experience I wanted to go through again but I left details over the phone with pc world. I thought it better to elave it with the only company in the car park, as if it was the owner, then it'd be too easy for him/her to claim "yeah, that was never there before, get it fixed".

Tis a privately run car park, surprised by no cameras though, although the surface is a right mess all the same.
