Well the girlfriend thought it wud be a good idea for Me to go to mcdonalds for some food, this is about 12:45 on sunday night, so got gear on and went down and parked the bike up next to this other 125 i knew the guy that owned the bike, so walked towards the door and a copper shouted out of a van and said "come here and bring your bike with you..." he looked at front and rear and only saw 1 L-plate on the rear, he said to me i need to get it sorted, and come down to the station after 5.00, he only took my name and reg No, all he wanted to see was that i was displaying full L-plates front and back, fair enough as if it was traffic police they would of gave me a fine, so wat can they do ? they didnt give me a name number or a producer, just said turn up with full L's

whats likely to happen ?

Why?

He wants you to go get the correct L plates, and come prove to him that you've done it.

If he was going to do you for anything, he'd have done it there and then, I reckon.

Wouldn't worry about it.

If they didn't give you a producer then you don't have to take them with you, but I'd take them anyway as they could if they feel like it give you a producer now and that'd just mean coming back another day, just take them with you so you can show them.

Can't see it being a big deal about the L's, just stick them on and go show him them and that'll be that I'd expect.

Sounds like he just wants to scare you and make sure you have L plates in future!

I agree with the others, I wouldn't worry about it.

Agree with the above. If he was going to be an arsehole about it, he would have slapped you with a £60 fine and three points on the spot.

Whilst you are under no compulsion to nip down the station with the bike (as he didn't give you a producer), it would be politic for you to do so. This way said copper has you down as "Not a bad kid." as opposed to "To be huckled at every oppertunity." They will see you around and can be surprisingly on the ball when it comes to this kind of thing.

Teach you a lesson, if someone wants you done they do it there an then. He probably wouldnt have come after you had you not even bothered going, but would be infinitly more likely to book you next time he saw you without it... or even to some other poor sod he catches.

I still maintain my opinion, your (not you personally mate) no different to a chavved up ped boi pretending his ped does 90mph at 60 BHP with a sports exhaust and go faster stripes if you ride without L plates when you dont have a full license. i.e Pretending to be something your not, a fully licensed rider.

Of course i know they split/fall off/come unstuck and it might be a while for you to sort it out. But thats fair enough, same as someone who's mirror might break off, number plate need replacing etc... it happens an long as they know and intend to get it sorted... then alright then.

But people who take them off out of choice in my book need to grow up Thumbs Down

(ironic coming from a 17 year old... but still. I kept them on the whole time on both my bikes before i passed... because thats what i was. a learner.

No one thinks your cool when you 17 pretending to be 21 to get in somewhere... so why should pretending your not a learner make you cool?

You get more respect just saying fair enough i'm a learner, going to do my test when i can and then get bigger bike, till then i'll continue to ride whatever i am allowed because i want to.)

Blimey i went bitchy. Confused

Cool that nothing bad came from it, a fine would be annoying.

I think you'll find most (or some at least) cops are either bikers themselves or would rather get a good reputation than worry about menial things like L Plates unless it becomes a nusiance.

Same with speeding (camera's are less forgiving) if your only a bit too fast often just a 'sorry' and some geniune respect will get you off with an unofficial slap on the wrists.

But eventually it'll be the same copper as before... and then the excuse wont hold.

Plus if everyone takes that opinion, then wont work for anyone. The 19th time a copper hears that it got snapped off he will either put out a warrant on the phantom L plate snapper... or simply say he doesnt believe you and be annoyed at your BS.

T.C is a policeman or something similar aint he? (i think i was cheeky about it once Laughing ).

So i guess he would know the real deal Thumbs Up

There's guys everywhere over here without plates on, thats mainly because they are riding illegal bikes but the cops only see it as a minor offence.

Always bear in mind that if you are on private land (ie McD's car park) you can't be done for certain road traffic act offences.
Why do you think all the cruises are there?
