Hi, how tight/fitted should a sport cut motorcycle jacket be? How much should you be able to wear under it?

It should be tight for example you should not be able to stuff a football up there. Mine has two zips one tight and one not so tight. I usually have mine on the not so tight one and Wear a hoody under it Thumbs Up

I usually work on the "2 bits of Kingsmill" ratio.

If I cant stuff 2 slices of bread into the armpit with it done up, it's too tight.

This is a joke right? How the fuck can we tell you how a jacket should fit?

Personal preference really. Snug and without wind drafts is generally better for me though a good winter jacket should be relatively spacious with plenty of straps to tighten things up. Never so tight that its uncomfortable to use and you can't move around freely though.

Not a joke at all! I went in the shop. The euro 48 size jacket fit. It was snug but about as perfectly sized as you can get with me wearing a tshirt or a base layer inside it. I tried a 50. That a bit more give so I could wear a rugby jersey or something like that underneath too. I'm buying my first jacket and don't know how much room you should leave.

So long as it has enough adjustment with fasteners to take up the slack you'd probably want to give yourself a bit of room at this time of year for undergarments. Bear in mind that something too loose fitting though can be drafty and that's pretty annoying.

What did the people in the shop recommend?

Didn't ask them - was in a bit of a rush at the time. Will go back and ask them when I have more time. In the mean time, there is a thread pointing out a bargain jacket at ghost bikes and I wanted to by it. I have gone for the small - I take a 38" chest suit jacket for work and the 48 euro jacket in the bike shop I tried in the shop did fit snugly without much underneath (it had the winter quilted liner in it).

Only reason I asked on here is because i wanted to mail order the ghost bikes jacket tonight.

I got one of those jackets from ghost bikes, superb value for money and great fit too. Bargain for £36.

48 Euro is 38" right? That's pretty damn small!

My jacket is snug enough to get the zips up (with the inserts in). It follows the contours of my body whilst the arms are only baggy at the elbows.

The jacket should be snug enough that your armour stays in position whilst the stretch panels do their job to allow you to move.

I don't think it's that small for someone with a 32" waist who weighs about 170lbs and is 5'11" is it?

If it's leather then as tight as you can get it.

It will stretch through use, and having them baggy or loose is needlessly sacrificing safety.

I think you'll find its very small if its a general leather one, i'm 5'10-5'11, weigh a fair bit less than you and have a 30-32 waist and have never had jackets below 40''.

That is allowing enough space for a shirt and fairly thick jumper or a hoodie [just - very snug, but thats what you want to keep the drafts out on the colder days], but even in just a t shirt in summer its a fairly comfy and safely tight fit.

I wear a 38" jacket and a 36 would probably fit. But then I weigh 140lbs.

Realistically I wouldn't worry about it too much. The difference will be marginal. As long as it can't bunch up too much if you come off, it can be as big or small as you prefer.

True, but looking out of the window, I'd suspect that he'll be padding it out with layers for the next few months anyway.

The best protection is gear that you actually wear rather than leave hanging on the peg.

I can wear a thick hoody under mine, and it feels snug. That being said, it still fits tight when I wear it on its own.

Looking out the windows is the reason I am in textiles atm, and not leathers though Wink Thumbs Up

If you're going to get a baggy one just so you can layer up underneath, you lose some benefits of wearing leather. You may as well by a textile, lose the same benefits, but gain in that they're waterproof, breathable and warmer.

He is buying a textile. You're the only one talking about leather jackets.

I'll know if I ordered too small once I have it! I was just trying to get the right fit first time so I can avoid the hassle and cost of doing an exchange.

Some very helpful replies. I think I will call them in the am and get it changed to medium.

Where does he say he is buying textile? Am I being blind? As I can't see where he says it's textile
