 |
|
Or, as I've discovered, it's called this:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pili_multigemini
Sometimes they defy my razor. They are very stiff (they don't have the 'split end' effect in the Wiki pics) and seem very easy to pull out.
The reason I've looked this up is I had a painful spot on my jawline yesterday that gave generously but didn't seem to be doing much. Tonight I examined it more closely in the mirror because I seemed to feel something rough in the middle of it, and sure enough when I squeezed one of these thick hairs poked out (and retreated when I released)... so I grabbed tweezers, and seized the thing and removed it.
Anyone suffer from these weird hairs? I invariably find that if I touch my face and think I missed a hair shaving that morning, it's one of them. ____________________ Previous: 2002 Honda CB500 (sold), 2007 Suzuki SV650SK6 (crashed), 2005 Yamaha FZ6 Fazer (sold). Currently bikeless

I also get weird plastic-like white hairs that really hate being shaved.
J4mes: you're not alone, I had a random hair sprouting out of my side a few years back, it was about three inches long. ____________________ Previous: 2002 Honda CB500 (sold), 2007 Suzuki SV650SK6 (crashed), 2005 Yamaha FZ6 Fazer (sold). Currently bikeless

https://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/12466-Occasional-Mutant-Facial-Hair
| Quote: | It seems that there are two kinds: the "rootless" kind that slip out easily, and the Pili multigemini, which hurt.
I've had both. The rootless ones are frequently wiry and kinked, whereas the rest of my beard tends to be straight-haired. I experienced the Latin version when I was about 20. I extracted what appeared to be hundreds from a spot on my jawline which had been bothering me for some time. I would have to say that the extraction was incredibly relieving. |
| Quote: | I had a pimple on my right nostril about 10 years ago or so. It stayed there for about a week and was getting bigger by the day. I got so frustrated with it one night before I went to sleep I squeezed it until it started t really hurt and out came this thick, long, black what seemed to be plastic bunch of hairs that were all stuck together. |
| Quote: | Every month or so, I'll get a single black hair in my beard stubble, wholly discernable from the other hairs, as this is jet black and a lot thicker (maybe 4 or 5 times thicker). It appears the same length as my other facial hairs of about 5mm. When I use tweezers to pull the hair out, there is no resistence or pain; it literally slides out. It is about 10mm in length (which obviously means there was 5mm growing under the skin). It has the consistency and appearance of plastic and doesn't seperate into individual strands of hair. Why is this kind of thing not documented? Am I a member of an elite club now? |
| Quote: | Now this is the weird part, the hair seems to act like an oil plug, once I pull it, oil will start flowing out of the pore like blood, and keep running for a while. Like ten-ish minutes. It really freaked me out the first couple of times. Intense amounts of relief occurred after the pull and as it drained. Keep in mind, I'm talking clear oil, not pus. |
AND NOW... THE WINNER:
| Quote: | As a lad, 1st grade I believe, I had chicken pox and developed a scar at the base of my skull. This scar was quite painful, even to the point of bringing tears to my eyes if I hit it too hard with a comb or whatnot. Others could obviously see it and would ask and I would explain about the "chicken pox scar". I thought it was just something I had to live with and my barber, a high school classmate of my dad's who was a third or fourth generation barber, never really made mention of it or investigated it closely to make me think it was anything else. Well, late in college my girlfriend at the time was obsessed with pulling ingrown hairs, etc, and one evening she set to work on my "scar" with a pair of tweezers. She had my head held down and was digging around with the tweezers and I could feel her pulling and she starts yelling, "Oh my God, Oh my God, it's DISGUSTING!!!" I'm like "What?!?!?!?" When she finally let my head up I turned to see hair, every bit of 10 inches long and covered with dried, white, who-knows-what, dangling from the tweezers. My chicken pox scar had turned out to be an ingrown hair that had continued to grow, unabated for, perhaps, more than a decade. |

I've got some hairs on my chest that appear to come from the same follicle but they don't hurt. They are generally jet black.
Everyone will seen this by now but I imagine its awesome to pull out.

Had one of them right next to my nipple. I shed a manly tear while plucking it!
Seem to suffer with ingrowing hairs on my nips too. Quite therapeutic digging it out and plucking it, seeing the hair go from a microscopic black end, to a good inch or so long ____________________ Eat well, poo hard

I've got blonde/brown hair and occasionally discover that one jet black hair that's longer than the others, awkwardly satisfying to pull out. ____________________ Motorcycle riding can be really cozy. If you want to be a little closer to your passenger, brake a little quicker for the next stop. |
