You look a cunt on a bike in cold weather with ice cold fingers.

Car, muff, train.

You choose Laughing

I had no issues adjusting stuff or using hand with muffs.

Try the 2 (or 3) finger gloves.
I've posted about these lots as I like them.

I've thought about muffs and even heated grips. To date I haven't felt the need to move to these options.

I like the Hein Gericke Pathan but currently trying IXS Vulkan ones. For emergencies (or to lend out) I also have a cheap pair from M&P on eBay knocking about somewhere. Even those are good.

I love muffs.

Can't really get warmer hands for £50.

Under my muffs, I'm still commuting in unlined summer gloves.

You don't really need muffs yet, it's not that cold unless you're driving at night a lot. When it gets properly cold then muffs, possibly backup up by an active heat source like heated gloves or grips, would be the way forward.

I don't love muffs, but I agree that they are by far the most effective and cheapest way to keep your hands warm & dry. I'm trying to stave off muffs as long as possible by using heated grips, three-fingered mittens and lots of layers, but I'm probably just delaying the inevitable.

it was -2 this morning, i reckon thats cold enough for muffs, add in an 80mph wind chill and your in Ranulph Fiennes territory

I use muffs because they work really well, but if you really really don't want them, try a heated jacket.
If you can wham your core temperature through the roof then you should be able to melt the rubber grips with your hands.

I've never found heated grips all that brilliant. Most of my riding is filtering through traffic, constantly covering the front brake and clutch = cold fingers, even though the grips could get hot enough to make my hands sweat, the very ends of my fingers would get painfully cold.
I think heated clothing is in my future (making my own cos I'm tight) but I'll still use the muffs - freezing rain = dry summer gloves.

Recently with the weather becoming colder, I've found my fingers have been becoming really really numb. I tried a pair of wooly gloves underneath my motorcycle gloves (which are meant to be thermal winter gloves anyway), still numb. So tried some rubber electrical safety gloves, a little better but still numb.

Had a quick look online for inner/under-gloves but none seem that well insulated around the tips of the fingers, which's where I need them to be (rest of my hands fine). Any ideas? One good thing about this cold weather is my bikes running really well (after it's warmed up), feels like I've got 5 more horsepower or something amazing Cool

Just to throw in a mix.

Raynaud’s syndrome

https://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/arthritis-information/conditions/raynauds-phenomenon.aspx?gclid=CIi30-j08LoCFQjlwgodK1QAcA

It means your arteries close down blood supply which exacerbates the problem.

The only real solution is heated grips, Heated gloves or MUFFS.

As soon as your fingers feel the cold your reflexes take over so you need to prevent your fingers feeling cold in the first instance.

I am a firm beleivist in insulation to keep body heat in. Long sleeves. Thin woolen jerseys work. Georgio ASDAni is your friend. You can get a kracking 'bike jumper' for under a tenner. Smile

Nothing more distracting on a bike than cold fingers. Wurser than being bursting for a shite.

This.

Combination of summer gloves, inside winter gloves, with the electrics out of Maplin heated gloves. Might make myself a heated neck warmer too, that's the coldest bit for me. Torso is fine because leather is windproof.

After only an hour or two around SE London my fingers started to feel numb and that's with new, supposedly, waterproof and thermal lined gloves. New full face visor did the trick upstairs but I can't believe I'll get through to March or April without investing in Muffs. Those neoprene marvels will be getting bought in the next two weeks m'thinks. Cool

My vote goes to heated grips. It's like holding a mug with your favourite hot beverage.
And you can adjust the temperature as well!

True, but even with a cheap winter IXS gloves on it's not an issue for me. To be fair though my commute is just 30 mins on 30-50 mph roads.

I haven't actually used muffs to comment on them, but they do sound like the best and easiest option to be honest.

I've never needed them in down to -5 temps so far though, i use a standard pair of winter gloves, then a pair of thermal ski inner gloves underneath, a lot of what they sell as 'thermal gloves' in shops like primark etc aren't really good quality, or aren't even thermal gloves at all.

The other mistake a lot of people make is cramming the under gloves into the main gloves that barely fit, which makes them so tight it restricts the blood flow in no time = cold fingers.

I get by with my usual size but i know a few people have a size-up in winter to accomodate the thermals Thumbs Up

So how do muffs attach to the bike and do they go over all the controls - are the controls inside the muffage?
