I have kangaroo steaks. I've never eaten kangaroo. What's it like and what should I cook with it?

Oddly, eaten that before.

Meat was fairly nice, I had it with chips, cos I am british. Chips go with everything Laughing

It goes well in a curry. There's a restaurant in Wakefield that sells kangaroo, crocodile, ostrich and venison as well as the normal selections.

I want to try snake after some survival program I saw where the guy was in a desert, found a rattle snake, brained it with a rock and buried it in the hot sand. Came back a few hours later and it was lovely and tender, meat was nearly falling off the bone. It looked delicious!

I ate it once and it tasted like dog smells.

I do know what works well with dog is making sure it's in a different room at mealtimes.

It goes well with anything a normal steak goes with OP. I like it with chips and some salad. Roast potatoes too perhaps. But certainly not rice or pasta.

Wasn't from lidl was it? The one round the corner from me has kangaroo steaks, diced reindeer, quail, lobster and a few other less common meats

Not from Lidl, it's half a kilo of rump steak that I got given. I'll check the packet.

Got asparagus, some other green shit and new potatoes.

It's there, but in the main, it's a bit like Neighbours. Produced in Australia, consumed elsewhere, because it's pisswater.

Cut the rump into steaks, OP, then beat it with a tenderiser till it has halved its thickness. Marinade for a few hours in Worcestershire sauce, a finely chopped chilli, a tablespoon of honey and about half that much peanut butter. Add a couple of teaspoons of lemon juice to taste, if you like. Make the marinade first, obviously - mix everything until its a reasonably smooth liquid.

Leave it in the marinade for a few hours, then grill it - you definitely DO NOT WANT this meat to be well done. It has very little fat content, so anything more than medium will turn it to chewable stone. My personal preference is about 30 to 45 seconds a side, just enough to sear the outside and heat the inside.

The flavour is lovely.

That marinade works well with steak too, as well as grilled king prawns, oddly.

Aussies prefer to drink XXXX, which if you ask me doesn't really taste of much, but you can get Fosters in Australia and it is certainly better to drink than XXXX, which is a lot like Carling....shite.

Which restaurant is that?

The Bollywood Lounge, 34 Smyth Street Wakefield WF1 1ED. They do currys with the bush meat. Look under new world dishes on the menu.

I have not tried, just heard about, so cannot vouch for quality, taste, etc.

HTH Thumbs Up

That is the problem with Castlemain, I think that is how Aussies get the rep of being able to drink a crate of beer in an hour, they drink XXXX and after 26 pints still not even tipsy.

They do have fosters in Australia but they essentially class it as piss water, it's a last resort lager wise (had an australian lodger who informed me of this)

However the fosters you buy here isn't Australian in the slightest...it's brewed in Manchester Wink

By the same token, when I bought a bottle of Stella in Australia, it had "Brewed in Australia by Fosters" written on the side

I've never noticed the New World menu but will look out for it next time that I dine there Thumbs Up

I've been to every state (except WA and Tasmania...and the ACT...) and never once seen Fosters Confused
