This time my good deed for the day.

Let a 125 pull out into a line of traffic earlier.

Noticed he still had the side stand down and fully extended.

Luckily the road was fairly straight.

Got to traffic lights and pulled up alongside (he was going right I was going left) and gave a small beep of the horn to get his attention - I think he thought I was going to give some abuse, however seemed grateful enough when I told him (His rear lights were out as well, this he was less happy about...).

So, I don't know what would happen if anyone was to lea left with the sidestand down, Im guessing it's quite likely to cause an off though, So like to think I did him a favour.

Copyright belongs to Brool Story Co.

Not massively interesting I know, but given my last 125 rant thought I'd try and balance it out a bit!

My bike cuts out if I have the side stand down and try to move.
Kinda glad it does.

Bent bars, two broken indicators & scratched tank Evil or Very Mad , not good.
Wont do that again in a hurry Embarassed

I can't remember when sidestand cut-out switches became standard but back in the day they were unheard of. Accidents and deaths attributed to riding with sidestands left down were commonplace.

A friend's Aprilla seems to not have a side stand switch, it is pretty much a road legal track bike tho.

I always forget to put my side stand up, as I turn left the bike suddenly bolts upright slightly and the sidestand flys up, no harm done as of yet.

Yep them side stands can be a cause of some serious stuff. Back in the 70's before side stand cut outs I used to park my bike at the back of the family garage leans against a wall so my dad could get his car in.......You know whats coming don't you.....yep, left the side stand down which went straight through dads Radiator when he drove the car in! Embarassed He wasn't very happy about it. Rolling Eyes

Told him to get the pillion off the back and fix his light or im reporting him for what hes just done.

told his mates to gtfo and stop being anti social then went home.

Now now grandad calm down. Smile

I know what you mean though, some of the idiocy you see teens getting up to its no wonder laws were brought in to curb younger riders access to bikes.

Kinda glad it does.
The switch is liable to go faulty eventually and is easily disabled as an owner 'fix'.
Considering what can happen it really should be replaced soon as practical, they aren't that expensive.

What was he driving?

More likely to have the handlebars scrape the bonnet than a side stand through a radiator Laughing

That does sound useful, but I'd be worried about slight inclines and/or strong wind.

Ma Sh*t bike has no switch. Left it down once but saved it with nothing more than a bang and a jolt. Not done it again since I've started initiating ride outs in a slower and more controlled manor, instead of racing off like a lunatic like i used to before i'd even done my jacket up. Its safer and more fun to have a James may style preperation sequence.

Your sig says Moto Guzzi yet I recall tha was a common problem with Ducati bikes. It was a 'feature'.

Bike would be parked up. Get a crowd of admirers. Someone would move bike to vertical, probably making vrooom vrooom noises. Stand flicks up. Person goes to put bike down and does not notice lack of stand. Bike ends up crashing to the ground.

In your early days on here you weren't exactly amazing at having fully working bikes, with an attitude to match too. Don't try and be a special cunstable, it doesn't suit you.

Suicide stands must be a standard feature on Italian bikes. Mine has gone over just from a slight nudge forward. I usually put it on the centre stand. Oh and one time the side stand bolt unscrewed itself on a trip Smile

K75 lifted the stand when you pulled the clutch in.

Well it used to...

Many years ago my friend's dad accidentally left his sidestand down - he also had his other son on the back of the bike at the time - he went to exit the A13 and had an accident due to the stand making contact with the road - sadly he lost his life and his son broke his arm.

I had some total fucking helmet on a CBR600 pull straight out in front of me today - first time a bike has done it an ages. Came within about two inches of hitting the back of fat cunt (for incredibly rotund was said twat). Am guessing he was so desperate to get down the chippy that he was switched off from everything else but the need to shovel his face.

I would have pulled up alongside and given the corpulent blind bastard a piece of my mind but he then accelerated off and I was on my RXS100 and unable to give chase Embarassed

Fortunately most bikers seem to have a decent awareness.
