What did they fail you on?
I failed mine last week!!! I didn't look round far enough to check my blind spot.
I have a retest on 9th january. But I passed my car test today.
Try it again as soon as you can, everything will stay fresh and you won't be as nervous. Thumbs Up

I don't claim to be an expert, but how the hell do they know? Thumbs Down I've been riding all of two weeks, but the three bikes I have been on in that time all had different blind spots, one was very small. Unless they're actually...inside your head Shocked Shifty Shocked

Anyway, sorry to hear it.

There is a definate difference betwean a shoulder check and a life saver. He was clearly judged to have performed a shoulder check (checking to your side which should be done before adjusting road position) when he should have done a life saver (looked behind before pulling out into the flow of traffic combined with a brief mirror check as you turn your head)

Clearly the examiner fel this checking it was safe was insufficient, he might have got away with it that time, but the examiner could still fail him as in the examiners oppinion he might not next time, and would be a danger to himself on the road.

Shit happens, just pick yourself up, try to learn for it and have another try at it. Hope i could be of help in some way, and best of luck for the next try! Thumbs Up

Cheers for that. Thumbs Up Like I said, not an expert. I don't think I fully understood the lifesaver thing when I did my CBT in that case. Probably why the instructor kept yelling at me for doing it wrong Shocked Shifty Shocked I have no problem with it now, I just hate to be told what to do when I don't know the reason behind it.

When is the correct place for each then? I tend to check behind me with my head as well as with my mirrors when I'm pulling off, as usually the bars are pointing in the wrong direction. When I'm changing lanes, I tend to look to my 4 o'clock to make sure no buggers are hiding in that blind spot, and to make it obvious that I'm about to change lane.

However, if I'm about to turn left, I tend to glance to my 9 oclock to make sure there isn't anything on my inside. If I'm turning right where I've stopped in the middle of the road and waiting for traffic to pass, I'll tend to check just to my 3 oclock, rather assuming that the traffic that's just passed me is going to stop anyone overtaking me. Shifty

If I'm pulling over (to) the central line to pass cars, I'll normally have a quick glance to my 3 oclock, if the roads are deserted and I'm glancing in my mirrors every 20-30 seconds or so, I tend not to bother if I'm only moving a few feet to the right..

Anything fail worthy in that lot? I fully expect so... Sad

I did all the looking at the right time just not far enough arond for the examiner. But as i was wearing an open faced helmet during my test i didn't feel like i had to look round as far. I could see. I think they should have taken that into account.
I'll try again in the new year(when i get my cbr back.). Rolling Eyes

I thought it was the other way round.
A lifesaver is your blind spot check to your side because if you moved into that area when something was overtaking you for example then you'd definately hit it.
The shoulder check is a look round behind you to ensure you are not going to cause another driver to change speed or direction (when pulling out, moving road position, changing speed, etc.), because its hard to judge another vehicles speed in your mirrors so you look round to properly judge it.

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong but it's what I've been taught and it seems much more logical to me.
