I am a fan of the HG Pathan.
If you look on here you'll see I post recommending them.
If you can get them cheaper in one of HG's regular sales all the better (they sometimes come up on eBay).

I have an old pair and they are very good.

To compare I also have IXS Vulkan ones and some cheapie ones via M&P eBay site. These are also good but can get chilly fingers compared to the HG.

I also picked up a pair of the 5 finger Pathan gloves at an auto-jumble. I know why the person wanted to get rid as the lining is easy to pull out when hands are warm. Easy to put back, just a pain if in a hurry. These 5 fingers Patan ones are also good. I just prefer the 3 finger versions. Never had a problem with the lining in those.

Those cheap Bike-It ones are actually fairly decent.

Muffs are much, much better though. Wink

I have used Frank Thomas lobster gloves and found them to be cheap for a reason. They had the look, but not the walk. No where near enough insulation. They were colder than my summer gloves.

I tried to find the HG ones that everyone raves about at retailers around me, but ended up spending way too much money on Rukka's lobster gloves. They are brilliant. My hands are still sweating after an hour on the motorway at -2. But the cuffs are puffy and hard to get inside the sleeves of my jacket, but not big enough to go over them (which I wouldn't want to do anyway in the rain), so a bit of a fiddle to get on.

Dislikes cold.

Dislikes muffs.

You can remove cold by using the muffs, seriously, they stop the wind dead.

Or you can carry on crying like a girl and getting worried you'll look an idiot Wink

This.

There is that moment when you first put the muffs on and you feel all self conscious but when you arrive at your destination with your hands warmer than when you started and its bloody cold out there you soon forget how daft you think you look. Honestly the best extra I have ever bought for a bike yet.

Bark busters type handguards are good at keeping the wind off. I ran some on the last 125 I had. Cheap orange 'fashion' ones, air vent holes covered with some tape. Reflective tape if that floats your boat. Good for keeping wind chill off. your fingertips.

Wrap the clutch lever in duct tape (or a foam tube if you like squishy, I don't) if you're getting your fingers frozen riding a cold clutch lever in heavy traffic.

I have some inner gloves, I don't like them but they help if it's really cold.

Apparently oxford do a model of heated grips designed for low powered scooter and 125 electrical systems, worth a look if you ride all winter and feel the cold. Found out about it after I got a bigger bike. Rarely run my R&G grips above 2/5 and rarely need more than my three season gloves. If I do then there's ice out there and I'm risking the girlfriend kicking my ass and stealing the keys.

Extra layers elsewhere help, keep the rest of you warm and cold extremities are less of a problem.

Hiyas
Thanks for the advice but im not worried about how I will look, my bike saves me £80 a month in fuel and I enjoy my daily ride, I was more worried about an accident with muffs, if I come off and need to get my hands out quick, Im watching some now and some pantheon gloves as I'm not keen paying HG £60 for some. Pain really as its just the finger tips that suffer, muffs new are £50 for my cg. I did think about hand guards.

Muffs are £40 from ebay, Tucano Urbano, accept no others.

Don't have an accident? Easiest method.
Your hands come out far easier than you think, give it 2 rides, you'll not want them off.

....and?

The neoprene ones stop at the switch gear and hold on to the bar ends.

I still cannot see where the issue is.

Worked on ALL bikes I've tried them on, includes your bog standard 125 commuter things Thumbs Up

Ah so the lumpy bit is where your thumb goes to use the switchgear?
I prefer the nylon version to keep rain of all the switchgear, I think its the r323 version I would need.

I have the neoprene ones and cant fault them. Fantastic and I wear my summer gloves. Considering the fact I am an instructor and when I am not working in the yard I am working in a bar finishing at 2AM on the south coast. It gets fkin cold at that time in the morning. I've never struggled.

I have the neoprene Tucanos with the thumb bit on my ped, and my DIY hairymuffs that cover the switchgear as well on Ze Beemer.

They both work very well. On balance, I find that I very slightly prefer to have the switchgear inside the muffs, as thumbing the indicator slider to the right can be a teeny bit fiddly. That's the only negative, and it's a minor quirk. There's no issue with getting your hands in and out quickly. Really, there isn't.

And I've just realised that I should swap them over, put the neoprene Tucanos on Ze Beemer and actually get some use out of stabbing a thumb at those daft 3-button Bavarian indicators. Idea

I have the nylon ones on my CBR600.

Had them a few years, really can't fault them, not sure why you'd want to do a winter without muffs tbh. I'm still not sold on the neoprene ones though, I like that the controls are enclosed by the big nylon kind. Hands in and out is a non-issue.

My Tucano urbano neoprenies arrived today, stuck them on for the commute home.

Once I realised the plastic inserts go over the metal loops, they attached ok. Embarassed

First impressions - they do as everyone says, they keep off the wind chill. Using the controls through the thumb bits didn't seem to bother me at all, although I hadn't realised how much I actually use the 'pass' button(now out of bounds)

I do however have an issue which I've not seen anyone comment on yet- the clutch lever on my fazer has a kink in it, which just happens to coincide with the little slit in the side of the muff. When pulling the clutch in, it catches on the side, pulling the muff back and popping the cap off the bar end. Anyone else have this issue? I presume elongating the slit a little should stop it.

So after one run, good, but not perfect. I'm reserving final judgment until live really got to grips with them. Slightly wishing I'd gone for the nylon ones instead... Will update on if my alterations are successful once I've given it a few days.
