Am I fair to put something like this at the bottom of an auction?

Quote:

READ THIS BIT ABOUT POSTAGE!
I have priced for the most basic postage and packaging, second class uninsured and unsigned for, I am happy to send this by the buyers chosen method (personally I would recommend insured and signed for or door to door courier given the value) so it's your choice but I will expect the extra to be paid as a second payment before I send it.

Or how would you do it?

Not sure, can you offer more than one type of postage?

Uninsured and unsigned for is a very bad idea when selling on eBay!!

It doesn't mater if it's the buyers choice of postage methods, eBay/Paypal will refund the buyer if they say it hasn't arrived and you have no tracking details that include a signature on delivery.

And you can offer multiple postage options, there's no need for anything to be paid as a second payment.

I always post recorded so they have to sign for it, so scumbags can't complain they didn't get it then get the item and their money.

I've had somebody do that to me so either pay for the postage or don't get the item.

I fucking hate eBay Laughing

Yep.

Under the option "Flat: Same cost to all buyers" there is a link saying "Offer additional service". Click that. Thumbs Up

Everything I post goes by Recorded delivery. Otherwise, it's far too easy for them to claim they never got it, and for eBay to compensate them by giving them my house, car, bike and life savings in addition to the item they pretended they never got.

If you intend to offer basic delivery without a signature, I would be inclined not to shout about it.

Don't even give them the option of 'non signed for'.
It's not worth taking the risk (unless the item is extremely cheap!).

You send things signed for to cover you, not them.
A certificate of postage (free) covers you up to around £20 +postage cost (used to be more).
Recorded for anything over that.

MyHermes is trackable, and usually cheaper than RM.
Depends what you're posting.
Most people will go for the cheapest option.
If they make a claim, Ebay requires proof of delivery.

I used MyHermes twice. And both times they broke the item. Then refused to pay compensation because the items were on their "excluded list". This is a list featuring pretty much anything that you might want to post using their service. I certainly won't be using them again.

Royal Mail are more expensive, but at least you have half a chance of getting the item in one piece.

I've never had a problem with sending uninsured - I've had a few people pull the old 'didn't arrive' trick (more than reasonably would have happened by chance), and RM have reimbursed me each time, just took a few weeks.

I would imagine if you claim with RM on a regular basis they'll start to tell you to shove it, though. I think they just paid me without actually checking (not sure they even can at 2nd class) as the items were in the 5-10 quid range.

The recipient claims from the sender or PayPal or whoever.
The sender claims with Royal Mail (or whatever courier they used).

With eBay the recipient generally gets their piece of flesh, no questions asked. So the onus is on the seller to either make sure they are insured or prepared to take the loss.
