GetGeared have been participating in some aggressive marketing campaigns recently. They're doing short notice heavy discount 'lightning sales' at the moment. Cool stuff, huge discount for a few hours.

I tried to buy some gloves in their latest sale £69.99 gloves reduced to half that, apparently the item I ordered was damaged so someone claiming to be their Customer Experience Manager offered me some budget £36.99 gloves at the £34.99 I had agreed to pay. Anyone else had them try a bait and switch?

It gets better.

As soon as I asked for a similar deal on a similar item a different member of their staff contacted me to tell me they were expecting new stock within 7-10 days, asking whether I would like to wait. I agree to wait, I'm buying discount summer gloves because the weather is good right now?

Customer experience manager e-mails me again telling me the new stock has actually arrived and do I still want the new stock item of the gloves I asked for in the first place?

I can't tell if this is a fun loving sales team or a set of really smooth operators that have graduated from a white van in a carpark.

I suppose you could defend them saying, they thought you wanted gloves now so offered you another pair so you could get your gloves and still pay less than RRP.

BUT it sounds dodgy to me Razz

Advertise one item, and offer either a significantly more expensive or significantly higher margin product falls foul of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Act 2008 IF it were to cause an 'average customer' to make a purchase that would otherwise not be made.

True I could have been on the market for some summer gloves with a fixed budget and been desperate for them now, as opposed to buying gear off season as it hits the sales.

GetGeared have apologised and I will forgive a singular mistake. If they're doing this to lots of us then it's not on. I'd love to see a string of posts saying great things about a supplier that isn't too far away.

I bought a Schuberth SR1 off GetGeared, and tried registering with Schuberth (for their replace-for-a-third-of-the-price-if-you-crash program), but Schuberth doesn't list GetGeared as a dealer. I contacted GetGeared twice about it, both times they said they will chase with Schuberth and will get back. That was over 6 weeks ago. Hmm... :/

Get geared have been around for a while. I'm guessing that they were just offering you a pair of gloves so that you'd at least have some.

As you said when you said you wanted, essentially, what you ordered they said that was fine.

Don't read anything into different people responding. A different person probably picked up the ticket and dealt with it. Not unusual.

Your complaint appears to be that they're offering you a better level of service and you think because of that they're trying to cheat you.

E.G.

1) You order gloves
2) During packing someone notices 4 fingers are missing decides that's not good enough
3) Get in touch offer you some other gloves that they have in stock
4) you reject that, they say fine 7-10 days ok? You say yes.
5) You get the gloves.

Sounds to me like Schuberth trying to dodge their own deal. I wouldn't expect every dealer to be registered with the manufacturer - the dealers will be buying from a distributor not from Schuberth.

Bought my first lot of gear from there, I think what you might be confusing shenanigans with good customer service. Doesn't surprise me in this day and age, but when I placed an order, I got a phone call at 9pm from them, they said they'd noticed I'd ordered several items of one size, and one item of a larger size, and was this a mistake and if so did I want to amend it (it was, and I did). Correctly sized items arrived the following day.

Service like that sticks in my mind and I've used them again and recommended them to others. I doubt they are pulling fast ones tbh.

Unless there's a Grey Market that GetGeared buy stuff from.

I'm remembering example of when supermarkets tried selling branded jeans at discounted prices. The likes of Levis didn't like that as said low prices damaged their profits brand image. The supermarkets bought cheap in Europe.

Not saying this is the case but if GetGeared stumbled on a container or two of Schuberth stuff cheap from say a bankrupt store then maybe Schuberth have a point.
