Had to stop and help this guy today. About 6.45am I was passing Blackheath tea hut when I saw a jumble of vehicles in the road A guy on a bike heading East had a car turn across his path and must have hit it hard. Bike had flipped over and was pointing the wrong way, bits of bike all over. Rider was in the road with another biker kinda bending over him but still wearing a crash helmet, Another guy on the phone a few metres away. Everyone else just pushing past in their cars. It didn't look like anyone was taking charge and the poor guy was clearly in distress so I stuck on my hazards on the chevrons so he didn't get his legs run over and went over to help him.
I've had to give first aid to a few people at traffic accidents - the worst was right outside my house where a guy got hit by a car that mounted the pavement, but this was the first time I was actually worried about the casualty. I got his name but he couldn't tell me his age, seemed to be struggling to stay alert and there was a little blood around his mouth. Kept trying to get up but that was agony for him so I did my best to keep him still and kept talking to him to make sure he was still responding, all the while running through my head what I was going to do if he went downhill. Thankfully that didn't happen, an off-duty cop appeared and I was happy for him to take charge so I got my orange motorway jacket out and covered the guy's legs to make him more comfortable, then the paramedics a couple of minutes later - I was never so pleased to see blue lights. After that I was just a spare part and making the traffic a nightmare so I didn't hang around.
The guy was called Roy, I hope he was ok and mends well. It's just a shame that so many people saw it as just a huge inconvenience to get past the and didn't think that there might be a guy in serious trouble lying in the road. GWS Roy. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

Good thing there are people like you about mate, when I came off mine my leg snapped in half, if it wasn't for the people who came to help I would have been fucked they managed to drag me off the middle of the road and ring an ambulance, never found out who it was or got a chance to say thanks. ____________________ 2012 KTM EXC 250

GJ mate, .
Nice to know there's still people like yourself around.
Seems that coming off your bike nowadays isn't a cause for concern to other motorists, just an inconvenience. The last 2 times I've come off, cars have literally driven past/around me. ____________________ TS50 > Senda 125 > ZXR400 > CB-1 > GSX-R1000 > Bandit 600 > ZXR750 H1 > GSX-R750 SRAD > '98 RR-W Fireblade > T595 Daytona > Hornet 900 > '04 Fireblade > GSX-S1000F (x2) > '23 XSR900 |

Credit to you
I came past about half 8 and his bike was still lying in the road, area taped off. Looked like a heavy hit. ____________________ You only get one lap of lifes track . . . . so make it a fast one !

Whatever happens to Roy, he'll be very grateful for your help. Even when I dropped my bike in traffic at a few mph and I had people jump out to help me, I was most appreciative.

At that time there were still police operating a one lane system past the site of the crash so I'm guessing investigation was underway. Bike still in the road, where it landed.
As said above, you did all you could, and 100% more than most of the ignorant drones that drove by, probably concerned only that their morning schedule was being affected. ____________________ You only get one lap of lifes track . . . . so make it a fast one !

Godd on you
I've been rather lucky in the fact that in two of my crashes, folks have rushed over to help me out. This has even happened when I've dropped my bike too. Although once another biker just sat there looking at me after I dropped my bike when trying to do a u-turn on a steep hill, when I was still a newb tbf though, he could have been paralysed with laughter.
The only time I've come across another crashed rider myself and stopped to help, turned out he'd died on impact. That was a real shitty day |

When I was knocked off a few years back, I couldn't get up, was lying in the middle of the road and this bloke's face appears above me - "are you OK?" it said. I though it was the bloke that had knocked me off and grabbed him by the neck...."whoooahhh...it wasn't me that hit you....I'm a biker myself!" he said He stayed there until the ambulance and police arrived, told me what was going on and even gave the idiot that has side-swiped me a bit of verbal
When you're on your own....and laid out, people that come to help are much appreciated. I had another spill where I was badly winded and nobody helped I've also been in the situation where everyone has ganged up on me...saying it was my fault......probably cos I was a scruffy biker. ____________________ Space Is Deep |

Oh man that is good news. Thanks for finding that, I really was fearing the worst.

One thing I would say though is don't stop with the first aid when the police turn up unless they really seem to know wht they are doing. They aren't always any good and they don't always help.
I've been in the situation of being in the middle of the road with a mate doing CPR on someone. The police arrived. I do not recall them coming over to check if we needed help or knew what we were doing. They pretty much just started taking names and addresses and writing down registration numbers.
I know for a fact they carry first aid kits in police cars which include basic one-way airways, swabs, gloves etc. It was not offered despite the fact that I was doing mouth to mouth in among a fair quantity of blood (I knew the guy well enough to know he was a nurse and so would have been vaccinated against hep B, but they didn't know that.).
That isn't the first time that's happened either. On another occasion I witnessed an alcoholic get a pretty heavy shoe-ing which resulted in him lying unconcious on the ground. Called an ambulance, got him in the recovery position and was keeping a really close eye on his airway which was sounding dodgy. He'd been unconcious for a good five minutes when the police arrived and started asking me my name and address, not "Can I help you?" not "Is there anything you need?". I told them if they weren't going to do anything helpful, they could at least stop distracting me.
So, I'd suggest people shouldn't stop rendering assistance just because the police turn up. Wait until a medical professional arrives. The police have, in my personal experience of dealing with two very seriously injured casualties, been of no help whatsoever. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. Mmm. I've only got experience of one no-casualties crash site, and Plod did indeed "take charge" in the sense of telling everyone who was managing the site to sod off without a word of acknowledgement or bothering to actually secure it themselves.
Also:
Firefighter holding casualties together after a massive A9 crash is told that he's "interfering" by Scotchplod.
The local gossip is that it was a rookie Scotchplod who totally lost it when he saw the giblets and started screeching about his authorotah while not having the first clue what he was doing. The uniform doth not make the man. ____________________ Biking is 1/20th as dangerous as horse riding.
