the GS has its own oil tank, the rest are premix.

Run it on whatever mix you want. I ran all my KTM 2 strokes on 40:1, but you can do 60:1 which is suggested by a lot of people.

Reliability, depends how you set it up. They're easily tunable in plenty of ways, ranging from setting the squish gap, to jetting, exhausts, power valve settings... You can set it for low maintenance reliability, or high strung rebuild every few hours.

By the sounds of it, they're not for you. get an XR400

Just bought one...

Has auto lube, power valve is an odd one, never seen one like that before, only bought for SM conversion and green lanes, using a 144 for offroad purposes atm and to be honest, its only as reliable as the owner.

My son races a 200exc. Most of the newer ones are pre-mix. I think the autolube version was dropped some time ago. Great bikes offroad but I wouldn't fancy riding on the road for any length of time. They are fairly highly strung race bikes, as such they are never happy on a constant throttle. The mid range can be fairly brutal and it takes a good rider to get the best from them but in the right hands they are race winners. I don't like riding my sons 200exc, I find it way to fiery compared to my 250exc.

Like a 125 on steroids about sums them up Wink

My EXC certainly seemed 'fiery' - great fun when you were on it, less so when tired.
They only made the autolube for a few years and they're fairly rare.

Needs a new exhaust really, but its purely cosmetic and I'll not bother until I've overhauled the whole thing Laughing

Paid £250 for all the bits to SM my DTR (DTX parts 2007) and an extra £50 to get the brake caliper and a bracket made up. Couldn't find a DTX caliper, so just got one from a YZF R 125 and got a bracket made up. Laughing

Will probably be more for a KTM because all the parts are expensive for KTM's.

It's just finding them... people want £500+ for round bits of metal.

TBH I'll just put more road based enduro tyres on but I would like the option to pop down to 17 inch sticky tyres.

My brother still has these for sale.Includes caliper bracket and spacers. The tyres are Pirelli Diablos with about 10 road miles on them from new earlier this year.

PM me if you need to find out more Thumbs Up

I paid £200 for my 17" wheels, which have Talon hubs and black Morad rims with heavy duty stainless spokes. That was without the bits that I needed before I could fit them to the XR.The front disc was £150,the rear £50 and the tyres were £150.The blingy gold valve caps were £2 from Halfrauds Wink

KTM wheels tend to keep their value well.
Not only are KTMs generally popular, but it's very easy to swap them on to other KTMs with no messing - even if you have a different set (they changed across the range between 02/03) it's not much hassle to go either way. Husaberg wheels are also the same as they're owned by KTM - the <02 Husaberg rims I had would work on all the KTMs I've had, including the 690 (had to use some 690 bits like the sprocket carrier.
So, they may be expensive to buy, but generally won't lose value.

If it's just lanes and you want loads of road work, I'd be considering 4 stroke and something like a XR400 or DRZ400.
CRM250 is a good mix of road and off road without being quite so highly strung.

If I remember right you can 'cheaply' sumo an EXC with RS125 wheels. If you google it or go on the ktmforum there should be more info, a few lads ran them on 450s and 525s

I would honestly stay with your original idea and get a 2T EXC, I used to do around 50 miles a day (road work) on my EXC 125 and then hours exploring the trails and nothing ever broke on it. They are amazingly fun on the trails and you will be having a much better time than if you where on a lardy DR/TTR/XR. It's worth it for the sound alone.
