Hi

I have a new bike that I can't do my old trick of spinning on the side stand to turn it around. Where I park is very tight. It's round the back of a mid terrace.

So with the new bike I need to reverse the bike out through 3 back gardens to a point where I can turn round. My question is, this is a long way with the engine off and no oil moving round. Should I do it with the engine ticking over on idle or is it safe with it off?

Thanks

safe with it off... aslong as it is neutral then the engine internals wont be moving.

unless you broked it in the face.

I'd rather struggle getting it out than make it easy for a scum bag to ride it out.

If you have a center stand then get yourself a turntable. Cost about £50. I made one from two bits of wood and a bearing.

I paid about £8 online from a craft place. 450kg load!

Hi thanks
I have considered the centre stand turn table. With the link you sent me. Can you talk me through what you did with this? Was it just a bearing sandwich?

Thanks

Pretty much. I don't have a stand so went one step further.

Of course moving the bike with the engine off won't hurt it. All that's turning are the two gearbox shafts with no load on them and even if there was it wouldn't hurt because they are splash-lubed anyway.

Even if you could push it fast enough to rotate the internals at several thousand RPM, I think you'll be okay.
