Two months ago I bought a used bike on my credit card from a dealer. After receiving the bike it was obvious that it needed replacement discs and pads and had a number of other problems which I immediately notified the dealer of.

I got this backed up by a local garage with a report and invoice by request of the dealer after my initial complaint.

After receiving the report and invoice they agreed to send me the parts for the work in a telephone conversation which amounts to £350 for a pair of discs and a set of pads. It's been 3 weeks since then and they now seem to be avoiding my calls and emails so I ask what's the next step?

I realise that after 3 months of the payment date I'll not have a leg to stand on legally. I am now 3 weeks away from having owned the bike for 3 months so I need to act fast but not sure what to do next, the dealer is 200 miles away and dealing with them face to face isn't an option.

Then you can't be that fussed. I nearly did a 300 mile round trip for £130 Laughing

Is what I read.

You can try their local trading standards, or talking to your credit card issuer.

Me, I'd have DIY it or paid someone to do it weeks ago, invoiced the dealer, and would be on to a letter before action by now, leading to a small claim.

The sooner you start, the sooner you'll be done.

Did you not view the bike before buying it?

I've rode the bike once and they've acknowledged the problems, they agreed to send me the parts, just always been difficult to contact.
My guess is they're just hanging me out to the point where I can't do anything legally. I realise now I've probably been too reasonable with them.

I bought it blind since it was a well respected dealer without a single bad review against their name and the bike was at a good price, just didn't match the advertised description but most of those problems were sorted out by a local garage with two hours work, just leaves the discs and pads now.

I would have drove down to them to sort it out face to face but it's a 3 hour drive each way and they've always been reassuring over the phone just like they were a moment ago when I called. Another guy from the company who is second in charge has assured me that he will send me the discs and pads, I was dealing with the boss before who apparently is always too busy, I suppose I'll give them another week then I'll phone my credit card company and look at the small claims option.

They have had plenty time to rectify it, if they were willing to send you the parts they would have done so long ago, phone your credit card now, and trading standards, you have been far too soft on them, should have handed the bike back as soon as you found the problems in the first place.

Ring them, if they aren't going to dispatch the parts today, you'll be driving down tomorrow to collect.

Where's the dealer based? Maybe you could nominate a nice forum member to pop in and collect the bits for you. At least then they're out of the garage's hands and with a (more trustworthy) total stranger.

are you mad? Shocked

i bet they couldn't believe their luck when some one rang up and started giving them their credit card details.

chalk it up to experience, fix the bike and enjoy riding it.

lazysod user name is quite fitting in this experience, next time view the bike. Thumbs Up

Would you send that much value and weight of goods without it being tracked / with a courier?

No,

"Hi, have you posted it? need to get the tracking number off you otherwise I'll have to start assuming you've no intent to send them"

You do live a long, long way away from civilisation though.

On topic, if I was the dealer, I'd have swapped all the parts for whatever I had laying around that was knackered or I couldn't get rid of.
