What settings you using for the light trails?

I've only had two short goes at it and got quite lucky.

A tripod is essential. Shoot in RAW, using mirror lock-up and either a cable release or 2-second timer. Use ISO100.

The one on the previous page at dusk was 4 seconds at F/9, custom white balance of 3500K.

This next one was 20 sec at f/13, custom white balance of 3500K.

Your photos look great Thumbs Up

Tripod is on the Christmas list, so I'm limited by bridges with hand rails lol. Also not a lot of traffic in Cornwall on a Saturday.

I was shooting at ISO100, F22 with shutter speed between 4-10 seconds.
The trails look a lot better at night as opposed to dusk like my shots.
Definately need a tripod Smile

I like both dusk and night trails. I never went over F16 in both of my sessions

I have to admit i never really go over f11, if i want a longer exposure i use a ND filter.

I realise now I had it stuck in shutter priority, hence the small aperture. Next attempt will be manual mode Embarassed

Could anyone suggest a decent tripod? Plenty of cheap ones on eBay that I'm sure will do the trick, but thought I'd best get some opinions before buying something that topples over Laughing

Also ...
Can anyone suggest somewhere I could "borrow" a key for lightroom. The usual suspects I'm trying are passworded files Thumbs Down

Get a sandbag and tie it to the tripod for more stability. Thumbs Up

I use vanguard and manfrotto, both carbon fibre so pretty light, i hook on my camera bag to the bottom of the vanguard in strong winds, in saying that i tend to bump the ISO to allow for faster exposure if its that bad.

Nice shot, one comment always easy saying it after the photo is taken but might have been better with her veil blowing in the wind behind her. Nice colours and a pretty smoky looking sky.

Cheers Thumbs Up the wind wasn't really catching the vale full on, plus I quite liked it wrapping around the groom, cleaner silhouette.

Modern dslr dynamic range is awesome:

I may have just landed myself a job as fight night photographer for UFW MMA, presented by Alex Reid. Sweet Thumbs Up

One of my last fight shots, with my 12 year old 1D mkII. Will be using my 7D for the next lot though.

Some roller derby shots these are great fun, this was my third and I think I have been getting better each time. If you get the chance to shoot one of these it's well worth it, fast moving and challenging. It is VERY dark in the hall all of these were at 3200iso and f2.8.

Was at some nonsense the other evening. Bitterly cold, horizontal hailstones. Trying out a new flash. Samantha Womack AKA Sam Janus AKA that bird off EastEnders was there, looking miserable and pissed off. Being manhandled this way and that by local rag snapper. I made (what I hoped was a) humorous remark and got this for my troubles:

https://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc223/Funkdooby_album/11014424653_78a6d5c0f0_k_zpsa6dce2ed.jpg

Then a couple of days later I got caught up in a bit of Doctor Who nonsense - I bloody knew the 4th Dr was going to turn up in the anniversary episode, though he didn't look this youthful, sadly:

If you couldn't have got a good shot of that scene, you don't deserve to hold a camera in your hands - right place, right time. I've had soooo many instances recently of the light changing as I get my camera out which has changed what would have been a stunning shot into the mediocre.

I could do with learning a bit about post processing - any recommended books for the Christmas list? I'm happy to play with Gimp / Photoshop but dont know what to tweak unless it is just try it and see?

Youtube would be the best bet, lightroom does 90% of photo needs nowadays.

Lightroom is amazing! One problem though, I can only access like the first five editing options, I used to get a whole massive list of sliders to tinker with but now nothing.

no idea what I've pressed. Laughing
