So, after joking with people last night about how the TLR wouldn't last too long before I write it off, a van driver seems to have done it for me today.

So I'm just driving on the road that I live on, which has a curved right hand bend, with a junction on it. Theres a fair amount of traffic, and I'm following two dominos peds. Theres a truck parked, not stationary, parked on the corner delivering to the school on the left hand side, so we go around it, and a van driver flies out of the turning, hits the front of the bike then drives over the front wheel and leaves the immediate area to stop 25m down the road.

I get up and immediately there's loads of people lifting the bike up, and the front wheel is bent so the brakes are locked on. After moving the bike I go to find the van driver and tell him that it's a no right hand turn and start making motions to hit him, when it turns out the second car is an unmarked police car.

Where the silver car is in the picture there's a large lorry stopped to deliver to the school on the LHS. The junction is left turn only. I'm probably doing 5mph.

No damage to me, helmet didn't even touch the ground, jacket isn't even scuffed. And no I don't have whiplash or emotional trauma. Just lots of stuff I had to do today Rolling Eyes

Seems the front subframe sorta snapped. the headlight is trashed and the front end didn't seem to clever when pushing it to my garage. Thanks to Squiffy_the_wombat who came in about 5 minutes to help.

So yeah, Fun fun fun.

As a van driver, I can only apologise on behalf of my breed.

We are not all a SMIDSY waiting to happen, some of us actually look out for other road users.

Have had similar (but with no contact) and not only did the guy not realise he had done it, when explained to him, did not even think he had done anything wrong.

Some people need educating in the rules of the road. (with a big stick).

Anyway, glad you are OK, hope the bike turns out to be right too and hope the plain clothes police did the right thing, should be a straight forward case for the insurace to sort out with witnesses like that.

Hope it all works out for you

Shit happens. Some c*** pulled out on you. You could have been badly hurt and you weren't.

A minor inconvinience while your bike is sorted, but the copper saw everything, so there'll be no drama on the insurance front.

Bad news, glad you're ok and didn't end up under the van.

What's the prognosis for the bike? Write-off, repair to pre-crash or streetfighter?

Thanks for the replies.

Yeah I don't know how I manage to find these people who want to hurt me.

They did not arrest him but he will be charged with some form of driving offence, I'm not sure what. The police officer didn't seem to mind much that I was furious. Mistakes happen, but he didn't even come over to see if I was okay or say sorry so that was the main problem I had.

Depends on the condition of the front end. Didn't seem to want to go straight when wheeling it home, and there was a distinct 'harsher' bit when pushing it as if there was a tight point on the wheel or disks. The whole front subframe seems to have smashed/snapped. Depends on write off value/salvage etc and how twisted the front end is. Still, selling the engine and electrics/frame would get more than the salvage value.

Insurance offered me a gs500 as a hire bike, I told them I wanted shiny and at least 130hp as it's not a suitable replacement. They'll probably come back with a bandit 12 or something but ah well.

Good !! -- They stopped
Good !! -- They are being prosecuted
Good !! -- You are not injured
Good !! -- A coppers statement - Dont forget to request a copy of it as they have been known not to be exactly sincere

its a shitter about the bike. I was admiring it last night as well & thought... Next one for me..

Try pushing the coppers for prosecuting
1. Driving with undue care & attention, and 2. Contravening road traffic signage)

If its any consolation, they must get at least 6 points, and you must start digging out those old receipts to get the true value of the bike as well

https://salesreceiptstore.com/fake_receipt_templates.html

...But only use this to replace real receipts that you have lost !!!! Yeah right..

Well, TLR is going on a truck to be examined on Friday and I'm getting an 09 bandit 1250 as a hire bike.

Fun times. The guy I said to said I'd only be able to keep the bike if it was cat C or D, but I thought you could keep it regardless. I did with my X11 which was Cat B.
