Best way of dealing with swingarm rust

My Shadow was new in June, and using FS365 has done bugger all for it's rust protection and as a result the shoddy work of honda is showing through on the swingarm.
I'm going to pick up some rust remover tomorrow. What's the best way to paint it after this? I know Hammerite would do the job well, but painting this on with a brush would look horrible compared to the rest of the paint.
Powdercoating would be great, but expensive I'm guessing.

It's possible to get hammerite on pretty smooth - it's partly down to having a fairly decent brush, careful prep and...erm...luck. Is yours the phantom with the stacked pipes? Cos I wouldn't have thought the swing arm is that visible, is it? Doubt whether it would be that noticeable once painted. But - more pertinently - isn't it under warranty if it was new in June? Or did you mean it was just new to you.

Use Acf50 once you have got it sorted. Vaslty better than FS365

If it's rusted in 6 months, what will it look like after 2 years when your warranty has run out?

That'd be worth a trip to the dealer or a call or Honda UK. They'll probably be relieved that it's not another CBF125.

I took my swingarm off on both bikes and used a wire brush on a drill to remove all shit and loose bits (after removing the chain guide and bushes), wiped down with white spirit then where there was surface rust I used jenolite acid till it was gone. Give it another clean then about 4 coats red oxide primer, when dry I put a few coats of stone chip underseal then when that's dry a few coats of semi gloss rattlecan.
leave for a day or two in the warm then remount chain guides and swingarm bushes, mount and your done.

You don't know that until you go and speak to the dealers about it. If you get no joy with them then speak to Honda UK.

Yeah DJ I was reading that earlier, ridiculous likes. Think you're must have been sitting for a while before you buying it. I'm with the masses on your situation and think you should reject it.

TBH that is nowhere near as bad as I thought it was going to be!

Think you could spray some ACF50 on it and get on with life...

Na I know its nothing horrific but it has to start somewhere and if the paint is thin enough there to do this so early what's it gonna be like in a few more months?

Took it to Twowheels Edinburgh today, where I got the bike. To quote the lad there he said "We don't mind doing the work if onda send us the parts. I'll send these pics to Honda and see what they say, but I'm doubtful they'll do anything about it. If they don't then get on at them with complaints."

So already proving to be better than Mr Devine in Glasgow. SHal find out next week what they say.

Honda have agreed that they are happy to replace the swingarm and both rear shocks stepping up.
